Where Will You Be In 5 Years?

I had just graduated from the university with a very good grade and had also completed the national service and the next stop for me was getting a job. I had known it wasn’t going to be an easy task based on the level of unemployment that was in the land. But I didn’t let all that deter me from achieving my goal of getting a well-paid job.

The Interviews

I started applying for vacancies that appeared in the national dailies that I felt I qualified for. I was lucky to get a follow calls for interviews, not many had these opportunities, it wasn’t a job yet but the thought that the companies go through your application and found you worthy to be called up was something that gave you an inner joy.

I remember going for an interview and the interviewer asked me “where will you be in 5 years?” I looked at him for a while thinking “you haven’t given me a job yet why asking me where I’ll be in 5 years?”, “are you trying to kill me or something?”, “is this a health question?” lol. I can’t quite remember the answer gave to him or what my response was, but I didn’t get the job. I was later made to understand I was supposed to read a special book about answering interview questions.

I Got The Interview Book And Got The Job

I later got the interview book and in it were loads of possible interview questions and answers. The book sure made one answer interview questions smarter. I discovered when the interviewer asked a particular question what they really meant was a totally different thing altogether but you would answer it as a layman and get it totally wrong. Why don’t they just go straight to the point? I’ld ask myself. Lol.

I finally got the dream job I was looking for almost 20 years ago, that was a bank job but for some reasons I just didn’t like the pressure and the always busy way of life it was turning me into so I left for another dream job in a management consultancy company. Lol.

In Conclusion

I think succeeding in anything you are doing in life has this formula which when you understand makes life a whole lot better and less complicated for you. I find some people on steem have been around for more than 2 years but are not getting a head way. They come in they see all the good stuff they try some of them, it doesn’t work out for them they leave and resurface after some time and try again and the circle of failure continues. Why not spend time and read about the success stories and how people made it to the top you might learn one or two things from them and who knows you might be the next whale. Lol.
