Steemit Inc. recent laid off of 70% of work force was due to cost. But here is a suggestion and way forward.

Recently, Ned Scott (CEO of Steemit Inc.) published in his article about the unfortunate circumstances that led to the laid off of about 70% of their workforce and the plan ahead while establishing the fact that the current downturn in the crypto space is highly responsible for the sudden move of Steemit Inc. Nevertheless, he made assurance that plans are underway for assuring that those vacuum created by the personnels will be filled ASAP.
I had a swell time understanding the whole situation at first as I am not a tech guy but thanks to @exyle for this fantastic post

I was able to pick a line from the post (supra) that the lay off was as a result of the fact that Steemit Inc cannot longer cope with the expenses of maintaining a full nodes which is the brain/control to which we use to communicate with the Steem blockchain. How sad this seems, the truth is, very few would be able to communicate with the chain if the nodes are down (if there are chances at all) why?

Nodes simplified;

“The idea of nodes was popularized with the adoption of packet-switching theory and the concept of distributed networks. In this context, nodes were gateways that could receive, store and send information along different routes through a distributed network. Each node was given an equal standing within the network, meaning that the loss of any one node wouldn’t significantly hurt the network.”

Due to the heavy payout which StInc. as incurred as a result of the maintenance of the full nodes, they are contemplating on how to generate revenue in order to continue the payment for the maintenance of the nodes. Here are few suggestions to add to the existing feedbacks on this note.

Way forward on how to generate revenues

Promotional/Partnership deal

A lot of people have said so many things about Ads content thriving on the Steem blockchain but I haven't seen a concrete work plan yet. Meanwhile, we can perhaps twist this Ads content to be a “promotional/partnership deal” (e.g remember byteballs airdrop?) Steemit Inc. can allow selected few products to leverage on the power of the community. I bet if we can fine tune the Ads to be different from the natural phenomenon obtainable on other social outlet, a lot of people will be enticed and attracted.

“Forbes said all but $1m of the $22m total is generated by advertising shown before videos, with the remainder coming from sponsored posts.”

That is an excerpt from the newsletter of how Ryan's Toy Review (a seven year old boy on YouTube) makes at least $1m on Ads every month.

Generate revenue from post promotion

Only God knows how many people use this ‘promote button’ again? I do not know maybe this function belongs to the StInc. if yes?
Then, let's kick start something real ASAP, a lot of people will be willing to use the Steemit services (if available) to boost their post/content and this is a major way to generate funds. Pay as you promote, rather than have some big fishes control the affairs - bid bots, it is time to see some changes. Meanwhile, there should be some limitations to this though in order to curb abuse.
Also, you can request all developers hosting their nodes on the full nodes should be charged henceforth.

All these are bond to happen in order to see Steem blockchain and STEEM itself surmount the challenges and come back like a thousand times. I really wish something is done ASAP. Thank you for reading through!

Steemit Inc will have to find a way to do this or live the frontend business for others,

Leaving can equate to so many things - that might lead to failure to continue with the maintenance of the full nodes. Meanwhile, if that is the case, other dapps may not survive this action. But its time for them to step up their game.
