Steemit GitHub: From Software Codes To Real World Steem Utility!

Hello Steemians,

I took a trip to the code factory of steemit on Github. I must tell you that I'm impressed by the level of work and activity I saw there. It shows that positive stuff is happening every second on here.

Over the weekend I published a post detailing the recent announcements towards a parallel token to reward positive user activity on Steemit. You can read more about Good Person Token here.

To say I'm excited is an understatement of how I really feel about this platform. So many people are also feeling like a room without a roof in Pharrel William's voice. Lolx. Back to the topic at hand.

Examining the Steemit Github will show you that there are 46 repositories within 4 projects.

For those who don't know nada about programming Github is like an online cloud for the storage of code in the form of git. It thus allows open-source projects to exist due to universal collaboration over the internet. Eg. Code contributors of Steemit are from many different parts of the world.

What did I find there? To a layman these may just look like a combination of random numbers and alphabets. But to programmer, there's a method to the madness. Their organization is superb!

Major Projects Currently Being Run By Steemit!

1- Communities:
Its also known as HIVEMIND. I have previously described in details what it entails here. In summary however, its the one programme that makes Steemit to become more like Reddit. We will have different pockets of data, posts & people each isolated from each other with ability of community managers to control what goes on within each pocket. There are so many more cool features you should read here..

2- Smart Media Tokens:
I this one has been over beaten. Anyway I will still proceed to explain because of the slim chance that someone here hasn't heard about it.

SMTs is the protocol that will enable us tokenize the internet. This means that all content creation websites can plugin in the sites via steem's APIs and begin to us this blockchain by creating their own tokens to reward content creators on their own site. Trust me, its gonna change everything about social media.

3- HardFork 20 (VELOCITY:
This is the much expected HF that will improve the speed of signup using mining algorithms. This way, accounts wouldn't have to wait for 1-2 weeks before approval anymore.

Its expect to enhance the scalability of this platform big time.

4- RocksDB:
As its name suggests its a database project to help speed up the site loading time and processes by freeing up disk space and also helps witnesses to do their job much more easily.

All of the projects show an activity time of 3 days which means that they were last worked on 3 days ago.

I won't delve into much details in order not to bore you with code. Here are a few (10) you should be interested in;
1- Dev Portal:
You don't need to be a programmer to immediately realize that its important to maintain a constant line of communication between the project developers and those who build with /on steem.

This portal contains all the necessary details to help anyone code with/on steem easily.

2- Faucet:
This is the point of contact between outsiders and the steem network. I'm referring to signup page. Check it out. Alot has happened btw.

3- Condenser:
This is the steemit social media frontend. Steemit.com is the first site built on top of the steem blockchain and retains the most activities.

4- Steem.Js:
This is the official Javascript Library of the steemosphere. You probably don't need this except you are a Node.js programmer.

5- SteemConnect:
The platform co-designed by Steemit Inc and Busy.Org to serve as a trusted connection to 3rd part websites built on steem. This forestalls phishing, hacking and theft.

There are others like STeem.Python, Steem Blockchain Data Service, Leeroy, Image hoster, Overseer, Redeemer etcz. DYOR.

Conclusions

A`lot is happening on this blockchain on a per second basis. @Ned is working. STeemit is growing every moment. Let's keep our fingers crossed as moon nears our periphery. Lolx.
