Teaching on Steem

in #steem5 years ago (edited)

I couple of days ago I wrote a post Steem Salary? in which I expressed my thoughts about an experiment a company could lead paying its employees partly in Steem. Among the comments this post received was from @jadung who wrote:

I can tell that you are maybe thinking of ways on how to bring the steemit platform or crypto idea to the public which is good. We are here to bring in more people until mass adoption hopefully. For me, the salary part may not work but instead of salary why not give the employees an incentive in the form of steem? Just my thought.

A better use case I can think of would work for teachers. I saw this on Youtube actually. One teacher uploads his lessons online then his students watch to learn. Teacher gets views and perhaps earn in the long run. I think that can work with steemit too.

Steem opportunities for education is something I have been talking about for a while to my colleagues and even students at the school were I taught until this school year.

This would be really simple to set up, wouldn't even require an agreement for an entire school and would be really motivating to the students and the teachers involved.

The simplicity of it is beautiful. A teacher would start posting his/her class material on Steem, in-class work, assignments for homework, quizzes, tests, his/her additional thoughts, literally anything. DTube, DSound or any other DApp could be incorporated here too. The students would also post their homework on Steem and post links in the comments, just like today many contest participants do. A teacher could encourage students to participate in discussions through commenting. You see, not much overhead is required. Just a few additional Steem accounts for students and their teacher.

Because personal teaching styles are generally allowed in schools, the teacher wouldn't even need to get approval from the principal. Maybe a teacher could just inform about this experiment ahead of time and even give a presentation about what kind of changes and results he/she saw in the students who were active on Steem after one semester ends.

And of course, this experiment would be highly motivating to everyone who participates because of nature of Steem upvotes and Steem economy. If you post your homework, you get an upvote, if you post a thoughtful comment on your teacher's post you get an upvote. You start commenting and upvoting your friend's posts and comments and in 7 days your posts and comments start to collect author rewards and upvotes you give to others - receive curation rewards. You power up everything you receive and watch your Steem Power grow.

Of course neither the teacher nor the students are limited to interacting with one another. They could read other people's post and comment on them too. This way a new generation of active Steemians would be raised.

The students could also participate in other activities on Steem (think contests, @steemmonsters or @actifit, for example). Because young minds are more likely to accept new things, problems of onboarding on Steem would be overcome rather easily.

Everyone knows the challenges of motivating young people to do their homework but with Steem, the system itself is so motivating and so homeworks and learning process would take care of themselves. I would say Steem is even addictive in a good way.

And if their classmates would be doing this, I would predict it's going to be even more addictive than Snapchat, Facebook or Instagram.

It's so beautiful and simple at the same time, isn't it? Everyone could do it.

Would this work? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
