There is a reason why PR companies exist.
Other companies use them to help manage how the media portrays them to the world at large.
Because of the decentralised nature of the Steem world our PR has largely been AWOL.
As far as I can observe Steemit Inc has never employed a PR agency. Or if it has, it has not been a very effective one.
For the Steem community at large we are our own PR agency.
As the DarkOverlord 'situation' demonstrates again, without PR we are at the mercy of whatever the media wants to write about us. No comment.
We Need To Talk To Journalists
@daan poses the question "Who's Been Contacting Journalists About Steem?".
We need to get out there and talk to journalists.
If we take the stories to the journos we might have a bit more of a say in what is written...
The DarkOverlord Ban Gets A Roasting
The crypto-media are having a field day with Steemit Inc's blocking of the @thedarkoverlord account from the steemit.com interface.
And on Twitter it's open season.
With a dash of PR could both sides of the story have been presented?
- STEEMIT.INC banned @thedarkoverlord from STEEMIT // Good call or did @NED just make another whoopsy?

Do We Need A Decentralized Community Regulated Account For A Better Steem?
@soyrosa poses the question "could a decentralized community regulated account be the next step needed towards a better Steem?"
And she has set up a DPoll to vote on the idea.
I am pretty sure the answer is yes.

Well. On a day when I woke up thinking that Soyrosa's incredibly thoughtful post would be the main topic of discussion what do I find?
I guess I understand Steemit Inc trying to protect themselves legally, but really? It's amazing how fast they can move if pressed. I thought that Ned was probably in the hospital near death since his live stream hasn't been rescheduled....

Thx for the mention on the Darklord topic. Think this should be discussed a bit more in depth. I dont think steemit.inc actions are completely unjustifiable as some may claim. Arguments can be made for both sides.
Yes I agree. I think an official statement from Steemit Inc would be very helpful to give a full perspective to the issue.

I hadn't realised that the "Dark Overlord" had been banned from Steemit Inc. That's a terrible move, in my opinion. I hate what the "Dark Overlord" group is doing, because I hate extortion - but I think they should have a platform so that people know what is going on and can speak out about it if they so choose.
This move puts Steemit in the same league as the rest of the corporate media.
I'm glad that the Dark Overlord's platform is still on the Steem blockchain, and available on busy.org. I hadn't even looked at their posts until today, though I had heard about them. The public has a right to know what's going on, so we can discuss these issues.

That article from cryptoslate is pure shit. Badly research and full of half truths. At least the one from ccn is factual and gives a good overview of what really happened. It's well written and doesn't show any negativity to the blockchain.
