Autovoting : A major diversion on Commenting !!
Changes are Inevitible Changes always happened for good and helps in bringing a complete transformation. However the changes happening over Steemit userbase is completelly nowhere.
As per a recent Article which made a comprensive study about Steem and Steem Blockchain. The article presented some eye opener data analysis on the things happening over Steem Blockchain. On one hand While the article raises concern on continous falling Steem prices, the other hand its come up with the major points that concern the decline of user activity on Steemit.
A recent data shows that both the number of active users on Steemit, as well as the number of user comments and posts, have steadily decreased over the last six months.
This means since the begining of 2018 not only the user base decresed but also the activity on steemit have decreased. Activity as in posts and comments.
I feel Posts i.e your contents and blogs is important as Steemit has always considered to be bloggers paradise. No doubt with decrease of user the number of post also diminishes.
Comments which forms an important source of curation has also reduced over time. I feel the reduction in comments is genuinely with two factors. Firstly being the decrease in userbase and secondally the more rely on Autovoting.
Many user have signed up on autovoting just to get auto curation rewards and thereby they are not much active on Steemit to read the contents and put up their valuable comments. Steemit is developed on community development strategy. It allows user not only to put up the views and insight through posts but also allows to put up valuable comments on other post which helps in interacting the author.
Comments form an important way of building community over Steemit. With introduction of autovoting, user are getting lethargic to be more active and restricted themselves to comments. They are ok to get curation through autovoting instead of commenting and increasing interaction.
I belive, if it would have been on the same logic of direct commenting on which Steem Blockcgain have developed rather than autovoting things could have been different.
As far as reduction on userbase is concerned , I would only sugest.....

There is a definite link between user activity and the Price of Steem. Higher prices tend to induce people into a greater level of activity activity. I would agree that auto-voting does have a negative impact on engagement through comments, but also has the benefit of at least supporting a community with members whose posts you may not always see.
A good balance between the two can be difficult to find. I'm not a great commenter (if that is a word), and I'll admit that, but I also combine auto votes with manual curation, even where I don't feel I have anything to add in the comments. That is just me...
Feeling great to see @bmj comments on mine 👍I belive any new joinee joins the auto upvote of big repo user to earn auto curation and they are no interested in commenting therby reducing the activity . the more traffic on steemit no doubt will pull steem price upwards. But things are changing that what article mentioned
It's hard to want to continue interacting when your posts and comments only receive $0.001. I use auto voting but I also try to get out and interact as it does increase my followers and helps keep this platform interesting. I think it is a delicate balance that a lot of people can't figure out.
Thats is the best way to move ahead on this platform...
bots did help me get some rewards when I joined, especially minnow support but when I see people misusing it to get high payouts on shit posts which have zero value, grammar mistakes and the like, I feel disheartened
I haven't tried any auto voting yet, but the way steemit is trending its becoming a bot platform.
Trending page on Steemit is about bot game...people use bot only to take their content on trending page
I remember when yahoo had chats and it was filled with people until bots eventually overran the whole thing and users left then it shut down. If steemit becomes a zombie bot community where they really don't comment and let bots do most of the work for them, and just picking their favs and popular favs to make some profits this too could very well face some dangers.
Right now I do see some what appears to be new people despite what some say others have left the platform, and even at times get lots of likes but make very little pennies.

Yes Steemit has changed since I joined last year. The hustle bustle is not there which I felt earlier or may be people have abandoned me😝 so I feel lonely whatever is the case as you rightly said it is a bloggers paradise. So people who really enjoy blogging will stay though it can be discouraging at times when you don’t get good payout and comments on your genuine posts.
I agree. Money spoils everything. Autovoting is just a chase for points. It undermines the content.
Good content often goes unnoticed. Hence decrease in user base and content base is inevitable.
Auto vote and bots have corrupted the scene, I guess, @steemflow . :)
