Preparations For Velocity (Hard Fork 20) Being Made??? Smart Media Token Publicity???

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

A few things are taking place that are very interesting. Could we see the beginning of some roll-outs that were discussed?

If you have not noticed, the upvote button is gone from the page where you write your posts. This is something that was discussed in an update put out by the development team a number of months back. The intention is to change the payout system somewhat to make it more favorable to those curating.

To start, the time of 100% curation payout is being moved up from 30 minutes to 15 minutes. At the same time, the author rewards for upvoting are also being altered.

Here is what was said about that in the post...

While the change to 15 minutes will even the playing field against bots, it doesn’t address the advantage self-voting gives to accounts with respect to curation rewards. If authors vote for themselves right away, they get their author rewards, 100% of the curation rewards from their vote, plus a portion of the curation rewards coming from everyone who votes for the post after them. Any other curator voting at the same time as the author would get 0% of the curation rewards. This gives the author an unfair advantage over other curators because the author can earn additional curation rewards through self-voting.

In order to eliminate this unfair advantage, the unused portion of the curation rewards will be returned to the rewards pool instead of being awarded to the author, thereby increasing the overall percentage of rewards that will be paid to curators. This will better serve the original mission of the curation rewards budget: to ensure that the Steem blockchain distributes rewards to the most valuable content.

Whatever the reasoning, the automatic upvote on one's posts is gone. We will see it is only temporary or a permanent change.

Another development is @ned is on the road. He is doing some events in Korea. This all could be coincidental yet it is interesting that the CEO of Steemit is on tour creating some publicity. What is attention-getting is that, after being silent for a number of months, that he goes out now.

This is what he wrote about the talk he gave at Seoul National University...

Packed house at Seoul National University for my talk on steemit, d.tube, STEEM and Smart Media Tokens:

Smart Media Tokens?

Could we be getting close to something announced about this? He is out there discussing that project meaning it is still on the front burner with him.

We know Korea is a hotbed for STEEM with a large following from that country.

This is how @ned's tour started...

Interviews with http://mk.co.kr/ and Yonhap to kick off my Korea trip. MK news organization is the 92nd most popular website and and Yonhap (yonhapnews.co.kr) is the 77th largest website in Korea:

And then we have this...

As I said, it all could be coincidental. Nevertheless, it is great seeing the CEO of Steemit out discussing different aspects of what is planned. It would be nice to get some audio or video of the events.

It is also encouraging that @ned posted about these events. While I grant that a few pics do not tell us much, @ned is not one to just post for no reason. He went two months without a post, thus I don't think he feels compelled to post to keep people's attention. Perhaps there was a reason he posted in the last couple days other than the "gee I haven't posted in a while" thought.

Patience, not a strong point for most of us, is critical. It seems that we might be getting close to being rewarded for it. The Steemit development team decided on a few major projects that is, in their view, going to take STEEM to the next levels.

Velocity, Communities, and SMTs are the three areas that the development team is determined to move ahead with. Everything else is likely on the back burner at this point.

This all is speculation and my attempt at connecting the dots. However, something seems to be brewing within the Steemit world. Hopefully we will have some concrete answers soon.

I wish the would bring the view counter back. Even if it’s only the author that can see it.

I wonder why they took it away? It almost seemed like a cover up to me. A lot of people were getting twice the amount of votes as page views thanks to auto-voting.

Yea that always confused me lol.

Still not understanding the curation time of 15 minutes. Does this mean my curation payout I receive from voting on other people’s posts can vary depending on when I curate? This is very confusing. Is 15 minutes after the post went live the “ideal” time to curate. Should I only curate posts that have just gone live? I’m making most of my rewards from curation at this point so this is an important topic for me. I appreciate your explanation and thanks for the update. I think your instincts are probably right, at least to some degree. Very exciting times ahead! Resteem

The ideal time to upvote is before everyone else.

Curation is easily the most complicated component of the rewards system. Typically, 25% of your upvote goes into a curation pool that is distributed based on a time weighted average. Earlier is much better. If you upvote before thirty minutes, you give some of your upvote to the author instead of the curation pool. That decreases your stake in the pool, but can get you favor in the time weighting.

In HF 20, that changes from 30 minutes to 15 minutes. So an upvote at 15 will put 25% of its value into the curation pool for the post instead of only 12.5% now.

Thanks @josephsavage! This helps provide more clarity for sure. I will keep this in mind moving forward.

That was helpful. I feel like communities are the sorely needed piece. It’s unbearable to find something interesting to read on this platform. You must wade through tons of junk!

I kind of disagree they should discourage self voting. A better rule might be only 50 percent of your votes can be self votes. You could still beat this easily with bots. Also I think you should get Curation rewards for the first vote, the righter is the first curator always. I would prefer they automatically gives writers curation rewards but curators get 100 pct of the the rewards

Indeed Ned talking in South Korea is a good thing.

I am pretty excited about the changes in curation rewards. Frankly it sucks and that is why people with larger SP just delegates to bots or sell their votes.

Curation is a dying part of Steem as everyone is just automating things.

So good to get this update. Thanks! It is like Steem Spring is just around the corner!

@taskmaster4450 I think that Great News will be Released from @ned out promoting over the next couple of weeks. We will be excited with the Results.........

Owk this is great news. These signs should possibly be the preparation for hardfork2.0 like you rightly said.

Never knew the auto upvote botton had been removed. Perhaps because I didn't like the idea od using it. Then, the whole curation reward thingy is super cool . This would enable people curate more posts than usual.

Interesting feed, keeping my ears to the ground.
Thanks for sharing this our way

How to Monetize the Whole Internet? With the smart media token!

I do think that it is temporarily because the busy frontend still has it!
I know that we need to have patience and I did some searches for HF20, but I still need to find a date and the correct content of it!
It could be possible that it is postponed to incoperate th SMT functionality!

Busy is a separate aggregator that Steemit Inc has no control over.

I know. But I was trying to point out that it was a change on the Steemit frontend and not on the blockchain. Had to make my answer more specific and clear!
For me busy.org is a blessing. It does gives me the slider, although I am way below 500SP, and its upvote bot drops by once in a while!

I've used busy once or twice, but then I get busy and forget about it for a while!

You're right that is not a blockchain level change yet. I've noticed that a lot of Steemit changes lately are 'nudge' type changes that encourage better behavior for newbies.

Some do others don’t.
For instance I don’t understand why they removed the post view count. It made it easy to see if upvotes were bought or not. Always strange to see a post with 2 views but with 50 upvotes 🤔
Really curious when HF20 will be released and what it will mean for the steem blockchain!
