It's even worse than that, as top 20 witnesses are expected to spend a lot of that reward on community support projects. When you break that out and the server costs, anyone able to run a witness server and willing to be on call 24 hours for any time stupid shit happens can probably make considerably more money at it elsewhere.

It looks to me like the only people witnessing really makes economic sense for are people like @thecryptodrive who get the added benefit of sitting next to the node making their other chain-related projects more effective.

Is that a flaw? I'm not sure.

If you get to top 20, you can budget pretty good... but the key word is budget... the rest, have to struggle as best as they can. Specially if they depend on steem to live.
