RE: What Steem looks like to a newbie

in #steem6 years ago

Well i don't understand really well how steemit actually makes theyr money.

This just seems like they are a big chairty.

Also the curation rewards seem to be so different at different times.

And which posts can make it to hot and trending

Yes, this is quite confusing.
Let me rephrase your first question:
How does the Steem economy gain money for rewards?
Steem is an inflationary currency. How it works is it basically generates predefined amount of Steem/SP/SBD out of thin air for rewards. This puts more of the currency on market, which decreases its value, which means if you just hold Steem and you don't have any activity, you're losing value. But it's fine, because all active users are gaining rewards. This means inactive users are losing value and active users are gaining, so it's basically a transfer of value from inactive users to active ones.

As for the curation rewards - before 30 minutes passed since the blogpost was posted, the longer you wait, the higher your curation rewards. Besides that, don't worry about rewards and just upvote whatever you really like. Upvoting a post just because you know upvoting it will earn you lots of money is bad, and it takes too much effort to find out how to do it anyway.

And which posts can make it to hot and trending is mainly about upvotes they get.

Thank you :)
