That is very interesting regarding the dynamic mesh networks and the Arab Spring. I note, however, that the West sponsored those revolutions, and suspect that regional governments may have simply been prevented from exercising control by bigger players. Even so, that is very interesting, and something to look more closely at, given how vital I reckon mesh networks are to society going forward.

While the network infrastructure may be pretty distributed, I don't think control of the infrastructure is, and given the investment made, I am confident it's not about to be enabled to be utilized without payment or against their judgment. The necessity of parasitizing the data for capital gains ensures that centralized control of access to cellular networks will surely be effected, making them of limited use contrary to the wishes of the true despots of centralization.

However, it is very true that physics is the ultimate ruler, and devices will inerrantly follow the laws of physics should the laws of politicians diverge. Phreaking may be the future as well as the past.

Yeah, politics is always shady. I'm just saying that the technology exists to start doing that kind of thing.
