Steem Basic Income - Visualizing our Upvotes to Members

Steem Basic Income

Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content.

Still Going Strong

We are up to six pools, so your upvotes could come from @steembasicincome, @sbi2, @sbi3, @sbi4, @sbi5, or @sbi6. We currently have 1863 members that have posted within the last 28 days, and almost 500 members that have not. Unfortunately the members that are not posting are not receiving upvotes. There are currently 9608 'shares' in the program, and it grows every day.

Pool 1 accounts voted

There has been a spike in inactivity in the last few weeks. Managing voting power around inactive members is an ongoing challenge. The portion of inactive members has grown to 30%. Some of these actively comment, but not post, so they will start receiving upvotes when we finish our automation project.

We try to redistribute the excess voting power that should go to the inactive members to active members, so that it is not wasted. With so many inactive members, we have only been able to upvote 409 of the members in pool 1! We also see @katysavage show up in the voting record. @josephsavage doesn't post frequently enough to get value from his management shares, so most of them are temporarily assigned to @katysavage until the automation project is finished.

Last week we had a 2.9% self-vote, which means most of our voting power has been going to our members. We do have our own updates on auto-vote, so this will move back up toward 10% as we re-establish consistency in our updates schedule.

Pool 2 accounts voted

Pool 2 upvotes come from @sbi2!

img source: http://www.steemreports.com/outgoing-votes-info/?account=sbi2&days=7

We have made great progress in shifting inactives out of pool 2, and only 30% of the members in pool 2 are still inactive. With better management of our voting power, we have also reduced the need to self-vote on comments, and pool 2 has only 3.3% of voting weight going to @steembasicincome.

Pool 3 accounts voted

Pool 3 upvotes come from @sbi3!

img source: http://www.steemreports.com/outgoing-votes-info/?account=sbi3&days=7

Many of the inactives from pool 2 have been shifted into pool 3, leaving it with a nearly 40% inactivity rate. We will shift more inactives into pool 4 in the coming week to start balancing pool 3 down toward 30% like pools 1 and 2. The self-vote percentage in pool 3 has been decreased to 3% and we see a new name appear in the chart. @tcpolymath is a newer Steemian that has seen the great potential of Steem and made some significant investments. We are happy to have his support!

Pool 4 accounts voted

Pool 4 upvotes come from @sbi4!)

Pool 4 only recently filled to 500, so calculating inactives the same weight makes it look like 40%. According to my tracking, it's actually only 33%. As we will be moving inactives down into pool 4 (and it will take longer to fully rebalance pool 4 back to 33%, I would expect the inactive rate in pool 4 to climb toward 40% this week before falling again. Time will tell!

Pool 5 accounts voted

Pool 5 upvotes come from @sbi5!

We really start to see @dynamicrypto and @dynamicgreentk in action as we get down to pool 5. Each member is capped at 100 shares per pool, so these guys try to reach that cap every time a new pool is launched. Pool 5 is growing quickly, with the number voted rising from 99 members in the last update to 263 in this one. As it continues to grow, the slice received by any individual member will reduce. The caps of 500 members per pool and 100 shares in each pool per member help create equality in the SBI upvote distribution over time!

Pool 6 accounts voted

Pool 6 upvotes come from @sbi6!

img source: http://www.steemreports.com/outgoing-votes-info/?account=sbi6&days=7

We launched pool 6 this month to give a place for members that post so frequently that even pool 5 would have them paused. There are a couple bigger members, but since it mostly has members with few shares and high posting frequency, the distribution chart is more even.

Once full automation is in place, we will no longer be dependent on @steemvoter services. We can have it skip posts that would have an upvote that is too low to commit to the blockchain, and save the voting power for their next post. Really active members won't have upvotes on every post anymore, but they will still have the same weekly returns, without having to sequester them in their own pool.

That will also mean that we won't have to open new pools until the bottom pool starts actually getting full! That's going to be a positive development as well. We will continue to provide more information about the program changes as we get close to full automation.

Conclusion

Last time I posted these charts, we had high self-voting percentages. I acknowledged that they would be a concern to some members, and asked for a little time to deal with the situation appropriately. We made some adjustments to the voting weight distribution and continued to rebalance inactive members across pools.

I appreciate the confidence placed in me by most of our members, as manually rebalancing voting weights is extremely time intensive. Full automation will resolve most of these issues, and it looms on the horizon! I think most of you will agree that it was worth being patient, since we have removed the need for extra self-votes on comments and brought the self-vote percentage for each pool below our maximum self-vote target of 10%.

Enrollment

If you want to get involved, or to increase the share of basic income that you receive, enrollment is pretty straightforward:

Just send 1 STEEM to @steembasicincome. Include the name of a Steemian to sponsor in the transaction memo (preceded by @). You and the person you sponsor will each receive 1 share in the program. You can sponsor any active Steemian, it does not have to be a current member.

If you're unclear, please check out our full transaction memo guidelines and then let us know if you have any questions.
https://steemit.com/basicincome/@steembasicincome/steem-basic-income-new-transaction-memo-guidelines

The official currency for enrollment is STEEM. We accept SBD at our discretion (usually when they're very close, or when SBD is stronger) but you do not receive extra value or any partial refund for paying in SBD instead of STEEM. If we choose to accept an SBD enrollment, we accept the entire amount. If we choose to reject it, we refund the entire amount and request you to send STEEM instead.

I just followed you in steemauto fan base. I will support you from now on.

Thanks for your support!

Wow nice idea, I spent thousands of hours on steem and haven't made a dime. About time to throw in the towel.

If you wanna add me on discord i can give you some tips.It isnt rocket science,it is just a system and you gotta learn to work it.

Sadly I have tried and don't have the intelligence. So for now I will continue to post non sense hoping one day a whale will throw some steem at me like some cheap hooker

Dont give up hope! Keep in touch!

Steemit is more about community and growth not just money.

Oh I know that. I come here for morale support all the time. I have met some really great people in the process. If I ever strike it rich, they will be in for a nice reward.

Try using upvote bots but look at the return on investment of the vote. There was a nice post about this recently. I can try find the link for you. Also try earn some curation rewards and google how to. Steembottracker has a nice tool Outrun the bots that you can use to ear curation rewards.

I will look into this. At one point I had a few bots attracted to my account and I would make steem daily from posting anything. But I stop posting for a few months and they left. Boy were those good days

This place really fluctuates as the price of Steem goes up and down. It can get quiet sometimes or perhaps it just feels that way for me. I see lots of activity on steem lately since the price is so high.

patience is a virtue frend, if you dont start out with money it will take time, it can only go exponential past a certain treshold and once you're at ease it will likely come easier to find creativity because there is no stress but until then perseverance is, i think, a great quality to have

Thanks you sir. I have no other choice but to keep on trying.

i'm far from a 'sir' lol, i'm a basic steemit bum but well if thats your only choice then you dont have to waste too much time on thinking about it do you , just keep cool head as it drags along for long at the start

My apologies captain :)

lol ... is that the impression i give off ? authoritarian ?

LOL, it must be boss. :)

Check out all the great contests our members host! Entering contests is a great way to get the ball rolling and earn your first dime. Just ask @wonderwop about his contest experience!

It may not be a dime, but I am sure it will be a pretty penny. lol. Ill check it out !

I'm a little red slice of the pie getting 0.6% of the votes. Not bad. Time to catch up and take over @katysavage's position at the top 😃.

I'll let her know you're coming for her spot!

How we can get upvote from steembasicincome?

I have 1 steem that's no problem.but how i can sponcer someone?

Just send 1 STEEM to @steembasicincome. Include the name of a Steemian to sponsor in the transaction memo (preceded by @).

I'll be honest, this share-model feels slightly triangular?!

How many shares does someone like dynamicrypto have, looks like they are getting a massive share of the total SBI?!

intruiging!

Not sure what you mean by triangular?

@dynamicrypto has 443 shares. Each pool is capped at 100 shares per member, so they are spread across 5 pools.

I'm honestly not even sure what I meant with triangular, I guess a circle would be the better description here. But that's not my point... I guess I just always feel a bit triggered when I see those paid-participation-things.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am a great fan of the UBI idea in general and what you are doing here might well be an awesome initiative, I was "sponsored" with a share from a friend an that's how I learned about it.

@dynamiccrypto's huge share of upvotes naturally caught my attention immediatly, thanks for laying out how that comes together.

I'll look into this some more when I have the time, I might even purchase some more SBI shares for some friends of mine, everyone like more upvotes, so that's kind of cool :D

But isn't the whole share model also kind of just a clean way of 50/50 self-voting?! I mean, that's still better and a lot more resilient than plain old paid upvotes or open self-voting, but in the end it feels more like a paid upvote subscription or support network than an actual "basic income" to me?!

Which raises another question: Is it compliant with your service if I bought a share and sponsored my own @googlyeyes-contest-account?! And in the light of that, do you try to prevent the use of your service with alt-accounts and exclusively self-interest-driven voting rings?

Please don't get me wrong, I am not trying to be offensive, I am just curious!! Just like paid upvotes or other subscription services, i don't see any problems with the services themselves, as long as they come with a responsible prevention and monitoring for abuse to be in line with the whole "proof-of-brain" idea.

The share model is the first iteration of the experiment, so that it can be self-funding. Once we complete our automation project, we will be moving into the next iteration, where we will be introducing more features that everyone benefits from (independent of the share model), along with an account that rewards community engagement.

It's fine for you to sponsor your own contest account. We expect members to have some self-interest, so we have designed the program to harness that self-interest and use it to create a sustainable base for our future initiatives in supporting community engagement.

Sounds intriguing. I'll definitely check it out in more detail.

Thanks for the feedback!

Wow! 6 pools! That is great but you sure do have your hands full. Thank you for all of your hard work and time. It is greatly appreciated! : )

long life at @steembasicincome

where do i ask my questions :p ... i think its about time i install discord after all but i think i should format the server completely first, i like clean and crispy, makes me feel safe but : @steembasicincome a question, and not the last one i'm afraid so i enrolled the guy who enrolled me , that means i have two shares now, right ? thats just dandy ofcourse but i have

i just found a floating bitcent, well more like bitpromille i forgot about and i got myself a second account, i filled it to 15sp without delegation and now no one can take the money and i wont waste it on snickers or beer
(getting to the point is always my forté) so, the intention is to run what i call a 'distrobot' in my own language which basically does nothing but receive votes on max 1 post per day , then on payout distributes the total sbd over everyone who voted, plus, in my case three 100% votes on payout day randomly given to three out of anyone who voted

but thats not the question, thats a sketch of the situation, i ofcourse upvote me and i ofcourse upvote my original since i ofcourse paid for it myself, i see no harm or god will smite me down in that,

euh, the question, right

on your moral vision : can in enrol my bot account with my original and vice versa or would you .. let's say "frown on this" ? because the last thing i want is to be excluded from your fabulous initiative so instead of trying to hide i'd rather ask up front, hoping you see this and hoping i get response from an actual admin

after that i have another question but i'l take that to you discord channel because its a bit elaborate on security and stuff
anyway : YOU are the best (well one of the, ofcourse, superlative initiative)

While we do like members to support each other and build community, the use you are proposing is not against the rules. There will be some new features coming up (previewed as SBI 2.0 in the video above) that your system would not receive much support from, but your base support from your initial membership will not be adversely affected.

Please make sure that the posts from your other account are not plagiarism, as that would be grounds for dismissal.

they are one post per day used for re-distribution among voters only and maybe when i get off-manual and the bot runs another one for the results although id like to keep it concatenated into one post per day

okay

i'll give myself shares then ... by your approval, please notify if anything changes

the faster i get to 10 steem per cycle the faster i can give 10% , you people are motivators, someone should give you a government grant or something (it would save and get them tax money after all if more people get more money, wouldnt it ... but i dont think they see 'investing' that way)

by the way, do i get some notification like i got when @dannyshine enrolled me ? i saw it in the feed thats actually how i know cuz he never told me personally

gud, thanks a LOT for taking time to reply

shin-sekai #borderlessnation promise not to abuse it just for me, if the bot gets some regulars i'll be looking for more interactive ways

We currently are only sending out notifications when somebody is first enrolled (so if your other account has not been enrolled before, you will get a notification on that account, but not to your own.

u-huh, well i havent seen one but its only been two or three days, i guess i'll see when the bot starts voting, i do only one post a day on that one anyway and its a distribution but as i vowed on my first account (and actually what i said 20 years ago) when i get enough 10% goes out so

for every 10sp i gain i will give one steem to enroll someone on both this account and the bot, thats my 10% pledge from years ago at bum-level lol

i think im getting the hang of it, i wish there was some more noob friendly documentation around though but i feel people who want positions of power try to keep it to themselves mostly .. a weird trend i have often seen in "open source" or science even : ego lol

anyway, if i dont see anything by wednesday i'll give you a beep im gonna install discord on the charon and see how that works

whos-awesome-youre-awesome-quote-2.jpg

We just published an easily accessible FAQ a few days ago, and that's the link we use in our welcome messages now.

You are receiving upvotes from @sbi4 (our account for pool 4) already.

i know, this account does but the other one doesnt yet or else i missed it, i only enlisted so cos you said that was ok, i get the votes from sbi4 here but i assume since the enrollment for @ubasti isnt in yet, the share i get for this one by enrolling that one isnt included yet either lol, i'm not complaining okay, i read the paper, if its not there in a week i'll be sure to come nag about it hahah

It's on the list that I'm working through today. Sorry about misunderstanding your comment.

I'm curious if anyone knows how steemreports.com works. Does anyone know if this site uses a modified Kibana?

Looking good. Growing daily. Did I read correctly, that we will receive upvotes on our comments when you go fully automated? That would be awesome!

It will favor posts first, but for members that are getting 100% on their posts and not drawing down their rewards balance, or for members that are not posting frequently, it will activate on comments too so that they can still receive their subscribed value.
