God sees us in a different way

Not long ago during my time of daily reading of the Bible, I was reading about how Samuel anointed David as king. Samuel went to the house of Jesse of Bethlehem, where God told him that he had provided a new king among his children. The first son to appear to Samuel was Eliab and based on his appearance, Samuel was sure that he was the one God had in mind.

1 Samuel 16: 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance, or at the height of his stature; because I discard it; because Jehovah does not see what man sees; Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

As I read this verse, God initiated these thoughts in me:

God does not see things in the same way that man sees. God does not have a carnal sight! His observations of man are not based on the appearance or on the performance of man. Only God sees the spiritual truth! When God looks at the heart, does he base his vision on man's attitude or on His integrity knowing what man will do in the future? Do not! That would base his view on carnal perceptions.

We have been created in the image of God. God sees us in him as a part of himself. He sees us holy and without blemish. His vision of us is not based on what we have done, but on what he has done for us, his creation, of his love for us. His observation is not based on the power that man has to rise to the level of God. It is based on God's own power and the integrity of his own word.

Salvation comes to us when we recognize that we do not have the ability to enter into the things of the kingdom but through the work of the cross and the influence of the Holy Spirit. We realize that if something is going to come from us, it will have to be God's work or nothing. Once we come to that realization, it is easy to fall back into the carnal mode. We search the Scriptures and find examples of people like David, Abraham, Jacob, Paul, and the list goes on. We look for the good attributes that these pious men did. We try with the power of our flesh to reproduce those attributes in our own lives. What those wonderful people did was not what they did based on their own strength.

Each of them failed in their own strength! They simply recognized that God was their source.
No matter what situation David was in, he went to God because he knew that he was his source. He believed that God was merciful and that he would have mercy on him.
