It seems easy to understand to me. Sometimes, cults are very successful and grow so large that they become a majority of society. Over time their teachings become culturally embedded and they gain more influence in politics and media. They might have their own movies, books, toys and games. Perhaps their calendar would be divided into before and after the founder lived, for example.
