DEALING WITH DEPRESSION - PART 1

Depression has been a major cause of death and mental retardation to millions around the world.

It has ben an agelong problem that has affected even great people even in bible days.

Some of the examples include,the great prohet Elijah.

He said in 1st Kings 19:14NIV...that God should take his life... what could have made such an anointed prophet to make such a wish??.

Depression had taken over his heart.

Such an amazing personality ,how could he have come to a point where death was what he wished for.....thats the effect depression could have on a soul.

Job said in Job 10:1 NIV said ''I loathe my very life.....King james translation puts it ...

KJV:My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

Depression brings such depths of bitterness of the soul(seat of all emotions)that all you see is no hope or way out of the situations that confronts you.

Depression gives life to thoughts that weakens the energy of our hearts.Our very reason for existence become meaningless.

Record says 25million Americans suffer from depression every year.

Over 50percent of people who die from suicide suffer from depression.

More americans suffer from depression than coronary(heart)

diseases,cancer, and HIV.

Depression leads to suicide if not managed and it is currently reported as the tenth leading cause of death in U.S

NOW if a major developed country like the U.S, that most underdeveloped countries desire to go stay have this amazing records of depression and suicides how much worse could it be over here if not handled quickly.

For most Nigerians,our resilent spirit has really kept us cool on the outside.We have a determined heart to succeed against all odds,thats why religion of hope thrive more in this part of the world.

We are quick to relieve every responsibility to God.

The cliche ,''God will do it" ''It is well" ""God will help us " e.t.c

Are popular amongst us...But truthfully as much as those lines are nice and well intentioned it does little in most cases to help the issues at stake.

Record shows that over 300million people worldwide are living in depression.

Depression is of degrees and types.

In our next series we shall be examining the various degrees of depression.

Thank you so much for sharing. It is important to note that everyone deals with, and remedies depression differently. I would love to be of help to people feeling this pain. The world is so great, so vast, so beautiful.

Each individual will have a different therapy for depression. In general, it is important to have support. Knowing you are not alone in the struggle. Knowing you are not alone finding your way out of a situation.

I have struggled with hopelessness. What helped me was knowing that many other people struggle as well with the exact same feelings. Then I needed to find purpose and meaning in my life. Something that would bring joy to my life.

I was always told to put others before myself, that has helped me as well. Not everyone has the same passion but everyone has something that they love. The problem is time money and other resources can easily get in the way. Just reach out to someone if you re feeling helpless. Put down your guard and become vulnerable. Chances are the people you reach out to can relate on some level.

Depression ranks right up there with stress as the silent killers of the human race. We can all do something to help. That is to listen, understand and never judge. If the situation was reversed you would want the same. The trick is being able to reverse the situation at the time of your critical actions.
