Understanding Marriage
Marriage is a lifetime commitment, a journey of no return, a union that is made to last forever which no man has the right to put asunder.

Marriage wasn't designed by man but by God.
God thought it a wise thing for a man to have a companion, a help mate suitable to meet his needs.
God never intended that couples separate for any reason but that the union will last till death do them apart. However the rate of divorce cases nowadays is very alarming and it calls for everyone to be very circumspect and to seek divine direction before marrying or to sustain the union if married.
People just hop into the marriage train without having a deeper understanding of what the union entails and that's why many marriages soon end on the rock. We all need to go back to where marriage begun and to understand it before we hop into one.
The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Mathew 19:3-6

Marriage was established in Genesis 2:18 where God saw the need to make man a help mate, a companion and a person suitable to meet the man's needs.
God designed marriage to last for a lifetime and not to end sooner.
We must understand that God cannot be taken out of the marriage equation if we want our marriages to succeed or last longer. God is the one we are to consult first when searching for a life partner, He should be acknowledged in all our ways so he can direct our path, He must be the center of our marriages and if there are challenges He is the first person we are to consult in prayer for His help.
Your marriage will surely last long if you go by the above and work with it all the time. The rest will be the duties or responsibilities you ought to perform for your partner for things to work for you.
People focus on that beautiful lady, or that handsome gentleman and forget the leading of God.
They accept people who have the money, the one who has got everything that any man or woman is dying for and they forget God.

Some feel the best partner is the one showing them so much love, care and lavishing gifts on them and then they forget God, the one we can't do without if marriage should succeed.
Due to the above reasons we are experiencing so much crisis in our marriage and many divorces.
