Hang On, Help Is Coming

Today I share with you this story from the Gospel of John. This is a popular story that many of us have heard about or read many times. This is indeed a story that inspires us that there is hope ones there is still life. Now let's read the story here:

Later on, there was another festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem is a pool called Bethesda in Hebrew. It has five colonnades, and under these a large number of sick people were lying—blind, lame, or paralyzed—waiting for the movement of the water. At certain times an angel of the Lord would go down into the pool and stir up the water, and whoever stepped in first after the stirring of the water was healed of whatever disease he had. One particular man was there who had been ill for 38 years. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” The sick man answered him, “Sir, I don’t have anyone to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up. While I’m trying to get there, someone else steps down ahead of me.” Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” The man immediately became well, and he picked up his mat and started walking. Now that day was a Sabbath. John 5:1-9

The sad thing that could happen to anyone is to be alive yet battling with sickness. It renders you helpless and hopeless. Having life is good but having life and good health is better. This is why God wishes that we prosper and also be in good health.

The invalid man the Bible talks about battled his ailments for 38years and all hope was gone. All his attempt to get into the healing pool proved futile and there was no helper to assist him.
He was so weak and could hardly move fast and go ahead of others but there was no one to help him out.

Perhaps all his family members and friends had forgotten about him and thought he was dead. God didn't forget this man and had a saviour for his healing. If Jesus found out that he has been there for long time then it means God never forgets anyone and He always have us in His thoughts just like Jeremiah says:

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11

The fact that you are going through hard times does not mean God has left you. He will definitely show up at the time you least expect. He has already given us this promise:

When you pass through the waters, I’ll be with you; and through the rivers, they won’t sweep over you. when you walk through fire you won’t be scorched, and the flame won’t set you ablaze. Isaiah 43:2

It doesn't matter the years it has taken you, when God steps in, He makes all things new and destitute you for all your loss. Be encouraged today.

Shalom!
