The Eight Things that Christ will do

in #steemchurch6 years ago

The first is found in Matthew 11:28: "Come to me all of you who are tired and tired and I

I will make you rest

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me that I am meek and humble of heart and you will find rest for your souls, because my yoke is comfortable and my burden light."

I have never seen a person who does not want to rest. There is no man or woman who lives on the face of the earth who does not need rest. We read of the rich man who broke down his granaries and built them bigger and said to his soul: "Soul, rest, you have much stored." The merchants work day and night to accumulate money, with a view to rest.

Men leave their families and friends and go around the world to earn money, hoping to rest. The sailors sail the waves and move away from their home for months to get money in order for them to take their rest. In fact if the rest was in the market to be able to buy it, there would be many hundreds in London that would buy it even at very high prices, but although money can not buy it by believing the word of God you can get it without money and without price.

Source

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Now, when we say "we will do this," we do not always do it. Maybe we do not have, intention to keep the word when we say that we will do one thing, or if we think about doing it sometimes we fail because of lack of resources or ability to fulfill the promise. But remember, God never breaks a promise.

He never makes a mistake, he never fails to keep his word. And the words that I read are worthy of all confidence, because they are not words of man, but of the Son of God: "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest."

This tells us where there is the only place where we can find rest. There is no other place where a man can have the possibility of finding rest for his soul. Remember, it is not through any creed, it is not through any particular Church or through any particular doctrine, but through Christ. "Come to me." It is by going to the personal Christ, alone, that we get peace and rest from the soul.

Peace

In John 14:27 there is a promise that is very precious to me. Christ says: «Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you; I do not give it to you as the world gives it. Do not let your heart be troubled or be afraid. "I'm leaving, but I'm not going to take away my peace; I leave you. »« My peace I give you. »Notice the expression:« My peace. »« My peace I give you. »

Many people seek their peace in mundane sources, but when they find it they do not get much out of it, because the devil can play with the feelings of men, as a man plays a harp and can deceive us in multiple ways. But if we go to Christ in search of peace we get what we want, we get rest for the soul and until we go to Him we will not get it.

There are many things that disturb our peace, but there is nothing that can alter the peace of God. If we could grab an island and throw it in the middle of the Atlantic it would make a great commotion in this world, but I do not believe that God was shaken on his eternal throne by it; it would not alter the heavens, high and high above the earth. Let us have the peace of God and we will have rest.

Then he says: "These things I have told you so that my joy may remain in you." The joy of Christ is not our joy. When we go to a personal Christ and our souls remain in Him then we get rest, peace and joy. This is a rest that nothing can alter; it is a peace that flows like a river; It is a joy forever and ever.

Now let's go to the second thing, which He will do and which is found in John 6:37. It seems to me that some will say, "Oh, if I were good enough to go, I would get this rest, peace and joy." But if you read the verse that I mention, you will see that it says: The one who comes to me

I will not throw him out in any way

No doubt this is broad, right? It does not matter if you're a man or a woman; no matter what your tribulations, your sorrows, your sins; if you go directly to the teacher He is not going to throw you out. Come, then, poor sinner; Come as you are and accept his word.

There is a prodigal and unbridled young man who came to one of our meetings. The course that followed was directly to ruin, but the Spirit of God began to work upon him. While I was talking with him and striving to bring him to Christ I quoted this verse.

I showed him and directed his mind directly to it for quite some time and at last it seemed that the light burst into his mind and that he found comfort in it, so I told him to hold on to that verse. Well, after he left on the way to his house the devil went to meet him.

For my part I do not believe that there is any person who begins to address Christ without the devil making an effort, in some way, to come in contact with him and make him stumble. And even after the person has come to Christ, the devil comes and tries to attack him with doubts and make him believe that there is something false in the thing.

So Satan went to meet this young man and whispered, "How do you know that this is a correct translation? This took him for a while to a standstill and threw him into the darkness again. But he remembered what he had said, that he clung to the text and, after Satan had objected to his head, he clung to the verse, but found no peace until two o'clock in the morning. Then he said to himself: "I am going to cling to the verse and if it is not the correct translation when I stand before the tribunal of God I will tell him that I did not know what was wrong, because I do not understand Greek or Latin." I will not throw him out in any way. "If you want to go to Him I have the authority of God to tell you that Christ will receive you today, yes, at this very moment.

The kings and princes of this world when they send invitations do so to the rich, the powerful, the wise, the noble, but the Lord, when he was on the earth, called around him the poorest and most unfortunate individuals. «This man», they said, «receives sinners and eats with them». The publicans, sinners and prostitutes were rushing to enter the kingdom of God in their day.

This man receives sinners

Here in London, there is no society that would have accepted John Bunyan as a member in his time, and yet the Lord saved him and welcomed him into his kingdom. Here is some poor and miserable drunkard, expelled from his house by his parents and abandoned by all his friends, but the Lord receives him. I have met some of the most ragged pariahs, despised all over the world, and yet the Lord has received them. So he takes his word today and accepts the invitation: "Whoever comes to me in any way gives him his

I will cast out. »

But you say that you have to get rid of your sins first and then come to Him. This would be like a man who was dying of scarlet fever and said, "Oh, I have to wait until I get rid of the fever before sending for the doctor It is precisely because you are a sinner and you can not free yourself from your sins that you need a savior.

If I were in a trance of death for lack of food, would it be reasonable for me to say: When I am free from this hunger, then I will begin to eat »? It is precisely because you are hungry that you need to eat and because you are a sinner that you need Christ. It is because a man is ill that he needs the doctor, and Christ is the doctor of the soul.

3 In Luke 5 we read about the leper who goes to Christ and the Lord says:

"I want; Be clean."

And immediately he left leprosy. This is another thing that Christ wants to do about which I will call your attention. Now, if there is a person here full of the leprosy of sin, if he wants to go to the teacher and tell him all of his case, He is going to tell him what he said to the poor leper: "I want; be clean ", and the leprosy of your sins will disappear. The only one who can forgive sins is the Lord. Here are his words, look at them again: «I want; be clean "and then put this next to the other verse:" Whoever comes to me will by no means cast him out. »

The outlaws of the devil

One day, while Witfield was preaching, he said that the Lord was so eager to save souls that he would accept the outcasts by the devil himself. Lady Hutingdon rebuked him saying that he should not make such statements. A little later, however, a poor woman came to hear her preaching, a real waste.

She was overwhelmed by a deep conviction of sin and before long she found peace in her savior and was received right there in the kingdom of God. Now, if there is a poor sinner here, let him receive this verse and keep in his mind that the poor leper went to Christ. The law forbade a leper to approach other people, but Christ is above the law. "The law came through Moses, but grace and truth through Jesus Christ. »

So you can make a wonderful exchange today. You can have health instead of disease; you can rid yourself of all that is vile and detestable in the sight of God. The Son of God comes and says: «I am going to cleanse you of leprosy and give you health instead.

I am going to take away this terrible disease that destroys your body and your soul and I will give you my justice in its place. I will clothe you with the garments of salvation. "Is not this something wonderful? This is what Jesus thinks when he says: "I want!" Oh, take this "I want"!

The confession

After man has been saved, confession is what comes next. We have been cleansed in the blood of the lamb and the next thing is to open the mouth. We must confess Christ here, in this world, in darkness, and speak to others about his love. We do not have to be ashamed of the Son of God.

A man considers it a great honor if he wins a victory that causes his name to be mentioned in parliament or in the presence of the king and his court. It's a great honor. And in China we read that the greatest ambition of a triumphant soldier is to have his name written in the palace or temple of Confucius. But let us think about having the name mentioned in the kingdom of heaven by the prince of glory, by the Son of God, because you confess him here on earth.

You confess that you are his here; He is going to confess that you are his there. If you want to be brought into the clear light of freedom you have to take the step and place yourself on the side of Christ. I have met many Christians who are groping in the darkness and never receive the clear light of the kingdom, because they are ashamed to confess the Son of God. Do not be ashamed, Christians, that your friends and even your enemies know that you are on God's side.

  1. Next comes the love of service

There are many Christians here, I believe, who have been warned to say, "I want to do some service for Christ." Well, Christ says, "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men." There is no Christian who can not bring anyone to savior. Christ says: "And I, if I am lifted up, will draw men to me", and our duty is precisely to raise Christ and live for Him.

You can go preach with the eloquence of the angel Gabriel, but if you live like a demon your preaching is useless. No matter how eloquent you are and how beautiful the language you use is, your preaching is useless. It is not worth following this man or that; Follow Christ, only Him. He says he will make us fishers of men.

Pedro got a good raid on the day of Pentecost

I doubt that Pedro never caught as many fish in a day as men did on the day of Pentecost. Any network they had on board would have been broken if they had to drag three thousand fish. Our Lord said: «Follow me, Peter, and I will make you a fisher of men», and Peter obeyed him simply and here, on the day of Pentecost, we can see the result.

But there is a reason and a big reason why many fail. Many good men have asked me: "Why do not we have any results? We work hard, we pray a lot, we preach conscientiously and there is no success. "I will tell you. It is because many spend all the time available mending their networks. No wonder they do not catch anything.

Stakeholder meetings

The important thing is to "hold meetings for those interested" and in this way the network is pulled and you can see if you have caught something. If you are always mending and arranging the network you will not fish many fish. Who has heard of a man who goes fishing and throws the net and then leaves it there, without ever pulling it? Everyone would laugh at his madness.

There was a minister in Manchester who came to see me one day and said, "I would like you to tell me why some ministers do not have more results than we have." I suggested the idea of collecting the nets and added: "You have to pull the network. "I told him that there are many ministers in Manchester who can preach much better than me, but who did not pull the net.

Many people have objections to the meetings for interested parties, but I insisted before him on the importance of them and the minister answered: «I have never pulled the network; I'm going to try it next Sunday. "He did it and eight people, eagerly interested, went to his study.

Next Sunday he came to see me and told me that he had never had such a wonderful Sunday in blessing in his life. The next time he threw the net there were forty and when he came to see me at the opera house, where he was preaching the other day, he said to me joyfully: "Moody, I had eight hundred conversions last year. It's a big mistake not to have started throwing the net before! "So, friends, if you want to catch men

you have to pull the network

If you only catch one, it will be something. I may be a child, but I have seen a child who converted the whole family. You do not know what's in this guy's hard head in the interested room; can become a Martin Luther, a reformer who makes the world tremble; it is impossible to predict it. God uses the weak things of this world to confuse the powerful.

The promise of God is as good as a Bank of England bill; "I promise to pay so and so," and here is one of the promissory notes of Christ: "If you follow me I will make you fishers of men." Do not you want to take hold of the promise, trust in it and follow it now? But if you want to fish men you have to use a little bit of, how shall I say it

Common sense

This is called bread bread and wine. If a man preaches the gospel and preaches it faithfully he must expect results right there. But after he has proclaimed the good news, that he holds a meeting for the interested, and if a new meeting is necessary, and that he goes to the house of the people and preaches and prays with them and in this way hundreds will be those who They will be brought to God.

I believe that the children of God have the privilege of reaping the fruit of their labor three hundred and sixty-five days a year. "Good," says one, "but is there no time to sow and time to reap?" Yes, it is true, there are both, but you can also sow with one hand and reap with the other.

What would you think of a farmer who was planting the whole year and who never reaped? I repeat, we want to sow with one hand and reap with the other, and if we look for the fruit of our labor we will see it. "If I am lifted up, I will attract myself." We are to raise up Christ and seek out men, using the proper bait. There are many who do not and then marvel that they do not succeed.

Instead of this they organize all kinds of diversions to watch fishing men. They get to work in a false way. I will tell you what this world that perishes needs:

to Christ and to Christ crucified

There is a void in the bosom of every man that needs to be filled and if we go to them with the proper bait we will catch them. This poor boy needs a savior and if we are to succeed in fishing for men we must preach Christ crucified, not his life only, but his death.

"And just by being faithful in doing this we will succeed." And why? Because there is his promise: "If you come after me, I will make you fishers of men." And this promise is the same for you and me, as it is for his twelve disciples, and it is as true now as it was in their time. "The wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament and those who taught justice to many, as the stars, for ever and ever."

Think of the exalted privilege of getting a soul to Christ. You put a current in motion that will continue to flow through the centuries, when you are no longer present. "Blessed are those who die in the Lord, because they rest from their labors and their deeds follow them."

Pablo and his writings

Think of Paul up there. There is a steady stream of people who go up to heaven every day and every hour, who have been brought to Christ through their writings. Paul set in motion a current that has been flowing for two thousand years. Imagine the men who ascend to heaven and say: «Paul, I thank you for the letter you wrote to the Ephesians; I found Christ in her. "" Paul, thank you for writing the Epistle to the Corinthians. "" Paul, I found Christ in the Epistle to the Philippians. "" I thank you, Paul, for the letter to the Galatians; I found Christ in it. "And so I imagine people who are ascending

and they thank Pablo at all times for what he did. Ah, when Paul was put in jail he did not cross his arms and remained in indolence. He did not begin to write and his epistles have reached us through the ages, led thousands and thousands to the knowledge of the crucified Christ. "" Yes, "Christ also said to Paul," I will make you a fisher of men if you come in after me, "and Pablo continues to fish for souls ever since.

The devil thought that he had acted with cunning when he put Paul in jail, but he was very wrong; He took a false step, at least this time. I have no doubt that Paul has thanked God thereafter for the prison of Philippi and the flogging and his imprisonment. I'm sure we never know before we get to heaven all that the world has gotten out of this prison.

  1. We find the following in John 15:18: "I will not leave you orphans." For me this is a sweet thought, that Christ has not left us alone in this dark wilderness here below. Although He has ascended into heaven and has taken His place at the right hand of the Father on His throne He has not abandoned us. As the text says, "it has not left us orphans."

He did not abandon Joseph when he was put in jail. "God was with him." When Daniel was thrown into the lions' den the Almighty was with him. They were together, they could not be separated, so God also descended into the lions' den with Daniel.

There is no separation

If we have Christ with us we can have everything. Do not think about how weak we are. Let us raise our eyes to Him and think of Him as our elder brother, who has all power, because it has been given to him in heaven and on earth.

Jesus says: "Behold, I am with you until the end of the world." Some children and friends can leave us and it is very sad when a member of our family goes to a far country, for example, Australia. But thank God the believer and Christ will never be separated.

He is with us here and we will be with Him in person later on. We will be with Him and we will see Him in His beauty soon. But not only is He with us, but He has sent us to the Holy Spirit, who tells us all things. Let us honor the Holy Spirit let us recognize that he is here in our midst. He has power to give sight to the blind, freedom to the captive and to open the ears of the deaf, so that he can hear the glorious words of the gospel.

  1. Then there is another thing he will do, according to John 6:40; in the chapter he appears four times: "I will raise him on the last day."

The resurrection

The idea of having a savior who has power over death seems very sweet to me. My blessed teacher has the keys of death and hell. I feel pity for the poor unbelievers and infidels. They have no hope of eternal life. But every child of God can open this chapter and read the promise and his heart leaps within him for joy in doing so.

In general, merchants put the best genres in the shop window so that everyone can see their quality. The same here when Christ was on this earth gave us a sample of what He could do. There were the cases of the daughter of Jairo, the son of the widow and Lazarus of Bethany.

He resurrected the three to dispel any doubt that might remain in our hearts. How dark and gloomy this world would be if we did not hope to be resurrected, but now, when we place our children in the grave, even with sorrow in the heart, it is not without hope. We have seen his terrible struggle with death.

We have seen his departure to the beyond, but there is a star that illuminates the darkness: the thought that, although the happy circle has been broken on earth will be completed there, in the world of heavenly light. Those who have lost a loved one rejoice in reading what Jesus "will" do.

Those who have died in Christ will be recovered later. The darkness will dissipate and the light of the morning of the resurrection will pour down on us.

There is only a short time of waiting and then we will hear the voice, from the grave, of the One who has said: "I will raise him on the last day." This is a precious promise.

  1. Let's see now another thing that he will do in John 17:24: "Father, those you have given me I want that where I am also they be with me."

The future glory

He said these words in the upper room on the last night, before being crucified and suffering the terrible agony and death of Calvary. I see some here, whose faces begin to light up at the thought that they will see the King in his beauty in the hereafter. Yes, a glorious day this will take place in the future.

Some believe that the day they convert they have already achieved everything. Without the slightest doubt, we obtain salvation from the past, peace from the present, but then there is the glory of the future. It is because of this that Paul rejoiced.

He said: "These slight afflictions, these lashes, these stones that you throw at me, all this counts very little; the glory that there is in the hereafter far exceeds all this, which does not count at all, as long as I can win Christ. "And so, when things go against us, let's cheer up, remember that night is going to pass soon and that the dawn dawns for us.

The point that corresponds to the sinner

There is only one point missing from the eight we have seen. We have considered the things that Christ will do: He will give us rest, He will not cast anyone as vile as He is, but He will receive all those who come to Him, will make us clean, will bear witness that we belong to Him, will make us fishers of effective souls, will not leave us orphans, will resurrect us on the last day and will make us be with Him in glory.

And now sinners have to say:

«I will rise and go to my Father.

Who wants to say it this afternoon? Who wants to go to God, as was the prodigal son? I can see him from here. He is looking towards the horizon, the distant hills, where he already seems to see the house of the father he had left and he knows that there his loving father, with a gray head, is waiting for him; the son says to himself: "I am dying here of hunger when there is an abundance of bread in my father's house. I will get up and go to my father. "This was the decisive crossroads of his life. Was it something glorious, right, sinner?

When Mr. Spurgeon preached the other day in the West End, he summarized the things that the audience in front of him had heard. Some of you, he told them, have overlooked the prayers of your faithful Sunday school teachers who were pleading with tears for you and who were going to see you in your houses to speak to you. You resisted all their pleas and their influence no longer affects you.

And you have also gone beyond the tears of your mother and her prayers and she may already rest in the grave today; you have also left behind the tears and prayers of your father and those of your pastor, a pious and faithful man. There was a time when your sermons took effect, but now they no longer make an impression on you; You have gone to special meetings and they have not moved you either.

And you say that you are still so happy. Well, it's true, but remember that you are fast approaching hell and that there is no man, practically, who can hope to be saved if he lets his heart harden beyond this point.

My friends, say: "I will rise today." There will be joy in heaven for your return. Read Luke 15 "There is joy in heaven over a sinner who repents." Return now and live.

I'm lost, I know; nothing will heal my evil from what surrounds me here. I will rise and go to Jesus, dead for me.

Sort:

We will get up, look at the sky, and say: what do we do here?
We will have to go to our father's house, he awaits us with open arms, he waits for us to give us his love.
