Make Straight the Path of the Lord

Luke 3:4-7 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, the voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight and the rough ways shall be made smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

Before the coming of Christ, God ensured that people were prepared for him, he had already promised his people through prophetic messages of Christ coming and that his coming would bring drastic change to the ways of doing things however they had to prepare for him and that meant that they had to repent of their sins and crooked ways which is why it was written that they make straight the paths of the Lord. This was further buttressed by John the Baptist as he also came in to further reiterate the message of repentance before Christ thus showing how important it is for one to repent before he or she can have Christ.

So then what is repentance, repentance is simply a life of new orientation, one that has decided to take a new direction and not to go back to the old ways. Repentance in Christ means holding back from engaging in sinful business practices and conducting yourself in all honesty. Helping others in need and doing your best in all matters. These are not necessarily to merit favor from God but rather they depict your repentance in preparation for receiving Christ into your life and being for God. If we are to embrace Christ fully into our lives then we must be prepared to orient our lives in a different direction, one that is of honesty and values of a Christian.
