Motivation to pray

God has created us in such a way that to feel motivated to work for one thing we need to know the purpose
and the benefit of it. Even if we do not like it, we are not able to change easily. If we really understood the benefits of prayer, we would have been praying before now.

Motivation acts on the basis of desire. For someone to pray he must learn to desire prayer; and to pray as the Scriptures require, a great desire to do so must be created.

How can you come to have that great desire? To do this, you must understand the eternal and temporal benefits of prayer. When we look in the Bible, we discover powerful prayers. We see Moses, a man who had power in prayer and was able to speak with authority, not only to the enemies of God, but also to the people of the Lord. When he prayed, the plagues came upon Egypt, or the Red Sea opened before Israel. But how did Moses acquire his power in
the sentence? Through a life of prayer.

Joshua saw the powerful hand of God work through his life and ministry. He knew the will and strategy of the Lord in the battle; therefore, powerful cities fell before the inexperienced army that led. How did Joshua acquire so much power with God? I had learned to pray. While Moses prayed on the mountain, Joshua spent the night
also in prayer at the foot of it; and when the first hour came to depart, God had prepared a leader who knew the prayer.

David was also a man dedicated to prayer. When he was anointed king of Israel, Saul still occupied the throne. David could have been discouraged because only a few recognized his kingdom; however, the prayer gave him the confidence he needed. He waited for the Lord to place him on the physical throne of Israel. David had a
relationship with God strong enough not to kill Saul when the opportunity presented itself.

Elijah was the prophet of God during one of the worst times in the history of Israel. At that time, the people had begun to worship Baal, and Elijah prayed mightily in defiance of his prophets. By remembering his story, we thought about the power he had; but we must consider the origin of such power. Elijah was a man of prayer, who spent hours
and even days praying. This was the reason why, when the prophet was caught up in the whirlwind by the chariot of fire, the sons of the prophets sought him out on the mountains of Israel.

However, no one has ever manifested the power of God as his Son: Jesus Christ. Before beginning his public ministry, Jesus spent time being with the Father in prayer, and it is known of Him who spent periods praying alone. That was the origin of his power. The Lord could not do anything unless the Father revealed it to him.

The Bible says we should pray without ceasing. This means we should be motivated to pray always. Thank you for this wonderful message
