The Spirit of the Lord Is Upon Me

While Jesus was in the synagogue of Nazareth, the book of the prophet Isaiah was given to him; and when he opened the book he found the place where it was written:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me ...

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he anointed me to evangelize the poor, sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach freedom to the captives and give sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free, to announce the acceptable year of the Lord "(Lk 4.18,19).

No one better than Jesus identified so fully with the Holy Spirit. He gave rise to the Holy Spirit not only as a momentary thing, but a relationship He enjoyed throughout his life and ministry. We can observe it clearly when analyzing the points below.

He was conceived by the Holy Spirit.

We have this fact confirmed in several passages of the Scriptures: "And the angel answered and said to him," The Holy Spirit descends upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the Holy One, who is to be born of you, will be called Son of God "(Lk 1.35, see other passages: Mt 1.18,20)." In the conception of Jesus, no new life was called being (as in all other cases of human birth), but someone who had existed eternally and who, by his conception, now entered into a vital relationship with human nature. When Christ was conceived, it was not a conception of a human personality but a human nature. There is only one personality in Jesus Christ, namely, the Eternal, who was and is the Son of God. "

He was anointed by the Holy Spirit.

"As God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with virtue, who went about doing good and healing all the oppressed of the devil, because God was with him" (Acts 10.38). All the anointings mentioned in the Old Testament, whether prophets, priests or kings, have their fulfillment in an anointing of Jesus Christ, since he himself would fulfill in his time the offices of prophet, priest and king.

He was guided by the Holy Spirit.

"Then he was led by the Holy Spirit to the desert, ..." (Mt 4.1). The fact that Jesus was "impelled into the desert" (impelled is the term used by the evangelist Mark 1.12,13), by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan, does not mean that he was abandoned there, but that, all the time where he remained there he was guided, helped to overcome the temptations by the power of the Spirit. Then the Bible says that He: "returned in the power of the Spirit" (Lc 4.14). Throughout the time of his temptation Jesus was assisted by the Holy Spirit, and it was through the Spirit that his human nature overcame the temptations placed before Him.

He was filled with the Holy Spirit.

"And Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert" (Lk 4.1). It was because it was filled with the Holy Spirit that Jesus firmly resisted Satan and came out victorious against temptations. Jesus was prepared and equipped for battle. Matthew Henry [2] says: "He was filled with the Holy Spirit, who had descended upon him like a dove. The Lord Jesus now had greater measures of gifts, graces and consolations of the Holy Spirit than before."

He carried out his ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit.

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he anointed me to evangelize the poor, sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach freedom to the captives, to give sight to the blind, to freedom in the oppressed, to announce the acceptable year of the Lord "(Lk 4.18,19).
Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus preached with anointing, had power over demons, over diseases, over death.

He offered himself in sacrifice by the Holy Spirit.

He was enabled by the Holy Spirit to offer the necessary sacrifice for sins. "How much more did the blood of Christ, who by the eternal Spirit offered himself immaculate to God, purify his conscience from dead works, to serve the living God?" (Hb 9.14). It was not enough that Christ died for our sins, his sacrifice would have to be perfect, that was possible through the Holy Spirit

He was resurrected by the Holy Spirit.

"And if the Spirit of the one who rose from the dead resurrected Jesus dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also vivify your mortal body, by his Spirit who dwells in you" (Rm 8.11). The sacred text says that He was resurrected from the dead by the Holy Spirit. Sometimes the resurrection of Jesus is attributed to the Father (Acts 2:24), other times it is attributed to the Son himself (Jn 10.17,18).

He commanded the apostles after they were resurrected through the Holy Spirit.

"I made the first treatise, O Theophilus, about everything that Jesus began, not only to do, but to teach, until the day he was received up, after having given commandments, by the Holy Spirit, to the apostles who He had chosen "(Acts 1.1,2). It is the same Lord who gives orders by the Spirit today to the church, guiding and directing in all endeavors. The church does not depend on the physical presence of the Lord to be guided by Him. This guidance is made by the Holy Spirit, who is present (Jn 14.16).

He himself is the donor of the Spirit to the Church.

Christ was the one who granted the Holy Spirit to the Church. "So that, exalted by the right hand of God and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he poured out this which you see and hear" (Acts 2:33). This was the fulfillment of the promise made to his disciples. "When the Comforter comes, that I will send you from the Father ..." (Jn 15.26). The Holy Spirit that was upon Jesus assisted him throughout his earthly ministry.

Hi @glendys!

The mission of the Messiah is one of decent life expectancy, certainly for all people, but especially for those who are excluded from citizenship. In four statements, Jesus recalls the prophecy of Isaiah to describe what his mission is to "announce good news to the poor."

Hi Glendys, I checked your blog and I like your profession, Welcome to the community, with perseverance we can achieve great goals.

Your teaching is welcome, as we let the Holy Spirit control us, we will see the hand of God on our behalf.

It is the will of God that every blood washed HolyGhost filled believer could say with the same certainty and the same authority as Jesus did "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me"
The anointing is the divine enablement and supernatural equipment to carry on the ministry of Jesus.
