“In Joppa, there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas) who was also doing good and helping the poor. About that time that Peter was in Lydda, she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. Lydda was near J oppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, ‘please come at once’. Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. Peter sent them all out of the room, then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning towards the dead woman, he said, ‘Tabitha get up’ She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the believers and the widows and presented her to them alive. This became known all over J oppa, and many people believed in the Lord. Peter stayed in J oppa for some time, With a tanner named Simon.

We will all be remembered for what we did While here on earth. Had Dorcas been an evil woman, no One would have stood by her; but because She was kind and good, people rallied round her in her hour of need and gave good report about her to Peter who prayed and restored her to life.

Dorcas was a seamstress. Every child of God is expected to make good use of the gift of God with which he or she is endowed in whatever form.

OSDorcas was remembered as a result of the impact she add as a seamstress in Joppa, she was an epitome of a believer and her dedication and hardworks and kind heart to people around her made it difficult for her death to be accepted.
We as Christians must learn how to be impacting and make a difference, our work is not in vain, and everything we do, is always recognised by God.
Dorcas is a fine example of how we are to meet the needs of those around us. Christians are to “continue to remember the poor” (Galatians 2:10). Part of “religion that God our Father accepts” is “to look after orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27). This was the type of religion Dorcas practiced.

We live in different times and different physical circumstances. But people still need our time, talent and tender care in whatever form we can give it to them. Let’s learn from the example of Dorcas; let us also be doers.
