Only Him Matters

The story of Saul keeps reminding me of the attitude of most believers when it comes to our response in the face of reproof while others are watching. In 1Samuel 15:1-35, the Bible tells us that God sent Saul to destroy the Amalekites but he destroyed. Samuel was crossed with Saul. In verse 30 Saul made a shocking statement "Then he said I have sinned yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel..". Saul was not primarily concerned about the sin he has committed rather he was more concerned about what the people and the elders will say about a whole King that was being reproved by a prophet.

Most Christians today moved by the people around them, we don't want our ego deflated even when we are wrong. Some believers shout back at their leaders when reproved openly. Some in anger move to another church because their ego had been infringed on. It is important we understand that our business is with God primarily and not with man. David in a similar circumstance said " I have sinned" (2 Samuel 12:13). However he did not seek any man's honour.
