Whole Life Worship --- Devotional

For several Christians, the word worship is synonymous to the act of singing of songs during church services. This is usually implied when the lead singer of the choir announces to the congregation, “Let’s stand and worship God.” The act of singing praises to God is but one aspect of worship—Worship includes much more and is not just limited to singing activities on Sunday in a church building.

When the Samaritan woman consulted Jesus about this, Jesus Christ told her of a time when the place would not be essential. During those days, the act of worship would be done in spirit and in truth (John 4:20-24), as an integral portion of everything in our daily lives.

Let’s consider some of the ways we may worship God:

With our words (Rom. 11:33-36): After Paul finished a thorough explanation of doctrine to a church in Rome, He started to praise the Lord. As our minds are filled with the truths of God, our worship will also overflow in songs of adoration and prayer, reverence, and praise.

With surrendered lives (Rom. 12:1-2). Instead of animal sacrifices as an act of worship, we sacrifice ourselves unto the Lord through holy and obedient living. This lifestyle is certainly possible because the truth of God renews our mind, thereby transforming our life.

With service to others (Rom. 12:3-8). The activities we perform can also be an act of worship when it is done as unto the Lord, and by the Grace of God, we have been given the spiritual gifts which enable us to render services to one another.

Think about your life decisions, actions, and words throughout the day—both to others and God. How can they be transformed into worship?
