Greetings Friends

During the weekend, I joined in celebrating the union of both Abraham Okajah and Glory Inemesit, now Mr/Mrs Abraham Okajah. It was really a wonderful moment and I wish them a happy married life. I pray for a blissful, fruitful and blessed union.

That brings me to this message;

It is no longer news that there is a whole of happiness, joy, excitement, and celebration when it comes to solemnization of the Holy matrimony. This excitement causes one to host ceremonies as a way of celebration. People dance, mingle, bring gifts, eat and drink just show their own excitement and love to those about to wed.

Marriage is a time where families that never thought of knowing each other come together. Marriage brings peace and unity and that is why marriage is very important in the agenda of God. Marriage is good and pleasant that was why God himself instituted it. It is not for children! God designed it for the benefit of man.

It is worthy of note that wedding ceremonies is not marriage. Marriage is more than just ceremonies. Marriage begins after the ceremonies. So, it does not matter how big your party was, what matters is how well you keep your home either as a husband or as a wife. It is being able to carry out your duties as spouses to each other. So, while celebrating in ceremonies, let's not get carried away by the euphoria of the season.

REFLECTIONS ON MARRIAGE

Marriage is Good:

Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

'It is bad for a man to be alone' the bible records. If God says something is good then it is very good. Many a times in life, I come across different fellows who also have different philosophies about marriage. Some say marriage is a bondage that gets you tied down with one person till you die. Some opine that it brings too much responsibilities and many others. But in reality, those are simply the devil's idea and he is trying to disrupt the original mind of God for marriage. If you are yet to marriage, do not let anyone bring philosphies to your ears, rather always remember that marriage is good.

Marriage is Honourable: There is a level of respect you cannot attain when you are still single. Marriage brings honour to both the man and the woman. Since marriage is sacred which is what makes it honourable then we should always try to keep it sacred both before marriage and after marriage. As a single sister or brother, do not engage in sexual immoralities before tying the knots. As married couples, do not defile your matrimonial bed; do not get involved in adultery but rather be satisfied with your spouse. When you do not obey this things, you give room for the devil to afflict your life.
Marriage activates Favour and Blessing:

Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

There is a blessing from God that you will never have access to unless you marry. When you get into marriage, you obtain favour from God. So, if you must obtain this uncommon favour and blessings from God then it has to be in the place of marriage. You will agree with me that the life of a man changes in all ramifications when he gets married. Things just begins to fall in place, thought pattern changes, his coast enlarges and a whole lot of them. There are blessings attached with marriage. When you find a wife, you find a good thing and good things bring favour and blessings and joy and happiness.

Marriage involves Submission and Love: God admonises the wife to submit herself to her own husband as unto God. This implies that as a woman, your loyalty is to your husband first before your pastor, parents, bosses etc. If you do not submit to your husband then problems are inevitable. Submission is simply the love of the wife to the husband. Do not try to be above your husband cause the man is the head. On the other hand, God says to the husbands to love their wives. And love is simply the submission of the husband to the wife, so both mean the same thing. There are certain things a husband should not have unless the wife has. You should not eat when your wife and family has not. Love is a sacrificial committment. As a husband, you have to be committed to your wife always. For a marriage to be successful, then submission and love is non-negotiable.
Feelings and emotions are not enough for marriage; love is. The reason behind most breakups in marriages is because people marry because of the feelings they have for each other and it is not enough. The reason also we have lasting marriages is because of love. Marry one you love and not one you have feelings for. Feelings fluctuates, it increases and decreases also whereas love is a committment. It is the committment that keeps the marriage and not the feelings. The feelings you have for someone today might not be the same tomorrow and that's where the problem starts in some marriages. Their feelings for each other tends to decrease overtime and they cannot stay committed any more hence, divorce. Go for one your love dearly!

The issue of marriage cannot be discussed in one day as it is very wide. So, we will continue to preach this sermon as long as Christ tarries. The problems of this world emanates from wrong marriages and families. So, if we can control and imbibe good virtues in the families and marriages then we will have a better world.
