The sages who came to Jerusalem had seen a star that indicated the birth of a king to the people of Israel. They express themselves in a very interesting way. They do not ask about the prince who was born, or about who will be King of the Jews. Rather, they ask why King is born.

When talking about a king, what do we think? In Burger King, with his ridiculous figure of the "king" or king? In the kings of European countries, which mostly serve as decoration? They have no real power in the politics of their countries; more than anything they exercise a ceremonial function. Or maybe you remember the lion, the king of the jungle.

In our democratic countries, we have become accustomed to the idea that nobody reigns over us. We choose our own leaders through elections, as we are taught in our civics classes. The concept of a king seems somewhat outdated, another was very different from ours.

Democracy, with all its imperfections, is a good system of government. However, the Bible teaches us that we need a King. You lack a King in your life. I do not mean a political king, who replaces the president of the country. We need another kind of King. This is Christmas, because the Baby that was born and was laid in a manger is not only the Savior, but He is also the King.

The sages who came to Jerusalem had seen a star, which in its system of interpreting the heavens indicated the birth of a king to the people of Israel. Therefore, they decided to go and look for it. The most logical place to find him was in the capital city of his kingdom, so they came to Jerusalem to see this Child.

They express themselves in a very interesting way. They do not ask about the prince who was born, or about who will be King of the Jews. Rather, they ask why King is born.

In other words, since his birth this Child was already King. Not that one day he would become King, when his father died - like what happens with most kings.

Rather, since birth, he was already King. Why is a King born? Logically, to reign. But why do we need a King? To see why, let's go back to a period in the history of the people of Israel. From this time, we know some stories: we know of Samson, for example, with his long mane of hair. We have also heard of Gideon, who defeated an army of thousands with only three hundred men and trumpets.

I mean the time of the judges. After conquering the promised land under the leadership of Joshua, the Israelites abandoned God and fell into a terrible routine. What they did was to leave God and worship the pagan gods of their neighbors - the idols. When they did this, God punished them, giving them into the hands of other nations.

These other nations came and conquered them, killing some and forcing others to pay huge taxes or serve as slaves. When this happened, the Israelites remembered God. They called to Him, and then He would raise up a judge, who would guide them to defeat their enemies.

Is Christ your King? Have you given him control over your life? When you recognize him as Lord and Savior, you are making him your King. You are subjecting your life to its control. But in that moment, you do not know everything about what Christ wants from you. In other words, you do not know all the laws of your King.

This is why, in the Great Commission, Christ not only commanded us to make disciples. He also sent us to teach them everything He has commanded us. In other words, to live under the reign of Christ means to learn more and more what He wants from us, and to give him every area of our life.

I must clarify one thing. The fact of having Christ as your King does not mean that you do not obey the civil authorities. Unlike; He ordered us to give the Caesar - that is, the civil authority - what he deserves. But it means that, above any other authority, the highest authority in your life is the authority of Christ.

What are some of the things that Christ, as King, asks you to give him? I will mention two areas, not because they are the only ones, but because they are among the most difficult. The first is the question of money. When Christ is your King, it is no longer about your money. It's about your money, and you're just an administrator.

When you spend the money, your first question is not: what do I want to buy? Rather, it is: how does Christ want me to use this money He has entrusted to me? Someone once told of a man who was baptized by lifting the wallet out of the water, so that it would not get wet. I think that many of us have acted as if we had been baptized, everything but the portfolio. But if Christ is your King, He has to be King of your money too.

Christ said: "Whoever wants to become great among you should be his servant" (Matthew 20:26). If you want to be great in the kingdom of Christ, you have to be a servant of all. Because that is our King; He did not come to this world to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for us.

Do you serve the people you know? Are you looking for ways to help them excel? Or do you stay in the same routine of envy, slander and selfishness? If Christ is your King, He is calling you to something different. Now that you know what a king is for, make Christ the true King of your life.
