"Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation, the spirit is indeed ready, but the flesh is weak" (Mt 26.41).

We are a composite of flesh and Spirit. Our spiritual side is always prone to approach the things of God, while the carnal does not have that motivation, on the contrary, is very satisfied with things that are contrary to the Spirit, thus establishing a constant battle between the spiritual and the carnal. The victory of the flesh in this battle commits our Spirit, therefore, Jesus gives us important guidelines to reverse this dangerous result. Consider the following:

- Spiritual vigilance

It consists of being alert at a spiritual level. Humanly we will not be able to escape temptations about our material needs. The apostles of Jesus, when trying for themselves, failed: summoned by Jesus to pray were overcome by the dream; they promised fidelity to Jesus until death and on the same day they denied it; called to enjoy trust and intimacy with Jesus, betrayed him. "Peter said to him: Even if it is necessary to die with you, in no way deny you, and all the disciples said the same thing" (Mt 26,40).

- Be aware of our spiritual fragility

Our carnal side is stronger because we are born completely carnal, living such a great time, because our true or biblical spiritual initiation begins, most of the time, years after our birth. Still because the food for our flesh is much more widespread, attractive and abundant, while the spiritual food is indigestible to our flesh, the contrary, is not attractive to our fleshly eyes, and still demands the renunciation of these. "The Spirit is the one who vivifies, the flesh profits nothing, the words that I have spoken to you are Spirit and they are life" (Jn 663); "Then Jesus said to his disciples: If anyone wants to come after me, to deny himself, take up his cross and follow me" (Mt 16.24). The man created by God has his constitution in this order: spirit, soul, body. In man created in Adam there is investment in that form: body, soul, spirit. That is why the flesh, the body is stronger until we are reconstituted by Jesus to our originality.
