COMPASSION FOR THE NEEDY: OUR CHRISTIAN OBLIGATIONS

John 9:1-3 KJV

"And Jesus as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, tat he was born blind?
Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but tat the works of God should be made manifest in him."

What compassion or sympathy have you gotten for the needy as Christians or Parishioners? Some people are seriously on sick bed, others too are in serious starvation, others too are in financial crisis, others too are afflicted with the devil. What compassion do you normally show for them, when those people are suffering?

When the disciples passed the blind beggar(John 9:1), their sympathy about why he was suffering outweighed the prospect of reaching out to help him. "Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"they asked(vs.2). Their probing question for Jesus revealed that they were sympathetic with the blind beggar.
Thankfully, Jesus too modeled a compassionate response. Rather than speculation and condemnation, He marshaled His resources to help, which in this case meant complete healing. He made it clear that the ma blindness was intended to provide a moment for God glory and to magnify through Jesus' compassionate touch.

God has blessed you to be a rich man in your Community, Country or Church. You are able to cater for your family and live luxurious life life. But, many needy, sick and dependable people are found at your end who really need your help. What compassion are you showing for them? The Kingdom of heaven would be considered base on our works honoured for the needy ones, not because you donated huge sum of money in the church, meanwhile, others are at the bottom of life crying for hunger.

LUKE 14:13-14

"But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,
And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just."

Many orphans and widows are around you, how often do you show compassion for them? You have ample garment stored in your drunk, have you dreamt of donating some for those needy orphans and widows? You would be blessed by God if you donate some for them. But good Christianity or religion is for someone to look after the widows and orphans.

JAMES 1:27

"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their afflictions, and to keep oneself unstained from te world."

It is becoming a norm in our community that you "scratch my back, I scratch your back," or "do me I do you." For example, if I am a rich and I am donating something, I will look at my category, who can also donate the same amount to me, if it is money. This kindness is used to please mankind, but not God. That is why the Bible is saying that, if you organise a party, invite those who cannot pay you back, so that you will be blessed.

PSALMS 146: 9KJV

"The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth te fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down."

The way of the wicked will be in vain, if he decides to play evil to his people-thus orphans and widows. For the Lord is much careful and attentive for the poor. Lets show some compassion for the needy ones and love them too, there are more blessings for us if we treat them well.
