Take and Eat : I Am The Bread of Life Come Down From Heaven

in #steemchurch6 years ago

Dear beloved,

Sometimes we feel like Elijah in today’s First Reading. We want to lie down, sleep off and die, keenly aware of our failures, trials, problems and worries —that we seem to be getting no better at doing what God wants of us. Jesus told them that prophecies are being fulfilled in Him, that they are being taught by God. But they can’t believe it. They can only see His flesh, that He is the “son” of Joseph and Mary.
Yet if we believe, if we seek Him in our distress, if we come to Him in our worries, if we can only turn back to Him for all our solutions, He will deliver us from our fears, as we sing in today’s Psalm.

At the altar in every Eucharist, the angel of the Lord, the Lord himself (see Exodus 3:1–2), touches us. He commands us to take and eat His Flesh given for the life of the world (see Matthew 26:26).

As we all know this taste of the heavenly gift (see Hebrews 6:4–5) comes to us directly with a renewed command by Christ Himself—to get up and continue on the journey we began in Baptism, since the day we are Baptised to the mountain of God, the kingdom of heaven.
He will give us the bread of life, the strength and grace we need—as He fed our spiritual ancestors in the wilderness and Elijah in the desert.

So, please let us stop grieving the Spirit of God, as Paul says in today’s Epistle, in another reference to Israel in the desert (see Isaiah 63:10).

Fellow brethren, Let us say and cry to God as Elijah did, “Take my life.” Not in the sense of wanting to die, in the real sense of it but in giving ourselves as a sacrificial offering—loving Him as He has loved us, on the cross and in the Eucharist.

  • As we said last week, all our monthly readings centres on the Eucharist. In our First reading of today, we can see how the Angel of God woke Elijah from a deep sleep and told him " Get up and Eat, or the journey will be too long for you " . Strengthen by that Food, Elijah walked for good 40 days and 40 nights until he reached Mount Horeb. This food he ate in the wilderness, was a figure of the Bread of Life which we receive in the Blessed Sacrament. By the strength of that food, we are supported in our journey through the wilderness of this world till we come to the true Mountain of God, where we shall see God face to face in a happy eternity.

  • The work of God really wants us to performbfor Him is to Believe that Jesus Christ is sent by God. To Believe : in someone is to accept, to trust and be convinced of the authenticity of the person. It is to have unshakable confidence and love for the person such that your entire desire will be to obey and please him . It is to be ready and willing to live for the person and if need be, to die for him. That is the type of the love and trust that Our Lord Jesus is asking us to have for Him. If you believe that Jesus Christ is sent by God, then you can not find it difficult to " do whatever He tells you"

“Thank you Lord, for your unending love for Us, for your patience and your love for me, my friends and my household”

Thank you for reading this on " Take and Eat : I Am The Bread of Life Come Down From Heaven. What I learnt from this particular reading is this, Thanksgiving after Communion is necessary. The prayer we make after the Holy communion is the most acceptable to God and the most profitable to us. We can also use this period to make acts of Affection and Petition.

Acts of Affection include Thanksgiving, humility, love and self obligation to God.

Happy Sunday friends ⛪⛪
