Our spiritual growth is highly dependent on how much time we spend with the Lord. few days ago, we learnt about the need to commune with God and yesterday, we dug deeper to know what quiet time/alone time with God constitutes. In this blog, we shall be looking into benefits accrued to us when have a quiet time with God on a daily basis. I trust that we will crave that wonderful moment to be with the Lord.

1. We need a Quiet Time with God to Acquaint ourselves with Him

Job 22:21

Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you.

Our submitting to God in our quiet time will help us to be at peace with God. This will bring prosperity to us. At the place of being alone with God, we can comfortably sort out our shortcomings with Him. Remember Jacob in Genesis 32 where he withdrew to be alone, there he was able to fix himself with God and his name was changed from a deceiver to a covenant seed - Israel

2. We need a Quiet Time with God to hear God speak to our heart

Psalm 32:8,

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

Psalm 119:9

How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.

Isaiah 28:9-10

whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

The above passages points out that God is always in the readiness to teach us His ways. He wants to instruct us lest we fall away and walk amiss. As a child of God who is a new creation not living according to the old way of life but according to the will of God, we must endeavour to have God give us instructions for daily living. There is no other way for us to know the will of God except by hearing Him speak to us. It therefore become important for us to set time apart daily to hear from Him. In this way also, our spiritual ears would be trained to hear God clearly.

3. We need a Quiet Time with God to speak to God in prayer and praise

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

God wants to meet our needs if we'll be open to tell Him. He calls us not to worry but that we should make our request known to Him. It is a command from the Lord that we should pray always. We have an assurance that God hears us when we pray if we abide in Christ. It is a privilege for us to speak regularly to the Most High God and to carry our burdens to Him in prayer.
_ Read also Ephesians 6: 18, 1 Timothy 2:1-3, Psalm 22: 23._

4. We need a Quiet Time with God to receive grace and direction

Heb. 4:16

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (KJV)

God has plans for each day of our lives. Likewise, the devil plans evil days for every soul (Ephesians 6:13) and except we allow God to direct our lives, we may fall into the hand of the devil unknowingly. This is why God calls us to come boldly to Him each day to receive grace for the day's operations.

5. We need a Quiet Time with God to build up our daily lives as individual Christian

Jude 20

But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,

2 Corinthians 3:18

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

The above scriptures show that we can daily grow on to be like Jesus and be fruitful as we spend time praying and focusing our attention on God. It is also then we can move the hands of God concerning the lives of the other people.

Final Thoughts

From the above, we see amazing benefits of having that quiet and lone time with God. Indeed, we cannot afford to miss the blessings available at the feet of God when we humbly ourselves to give Him our attention. May God help us to create a quiet time for the Lord for our benefits - Amen.

A Call to Action

In Romans 10: 9 -10, the scripture points to action that can be taken to unravel this mystery and enjoy this newness of life.

  • By believing in our heart that God raised Jesus Christ from death makes us right with God;
  • By only confessing Jesus as our Lord saves you from all our sins.
