What does it mean: I am the way, the truth and the life?
Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life" in a conversation with his disciples. He had explained that he would soon return to the Father's house and that the disciples already knew the way he was going (John 14: 2-4). The disciples did not understand that he was talking about going to heaven and they asked him how they could know the way. Jesus answered that he was the way (John 14: 5-6).
The way
Jesus is the way for the Father. Through Jesus, we can have direct access to God, because Jesus is God. Before, sin was like a closed door between us and God. On the cross Jesus opened the door, leaving the way open to God. The one who follows Jesus continues on his way to eternal life (Hebrews 10: 19-20).

The truth
Jesus not only told the truth, he is the truth. Truth means something that is absolute, that exists, that is real. Jesus is God, he is real, he always existed and he will always exist. There is no falsehood in Jesus. Jesus is the truth that frees us from the power of sin (John 8:32).

Life
Jesus is the source of all life. He overcame until death! Sin separates us from God, bringing death. But, through Jesus, we can be resurrected and have eternal life. He who accepts Jesus as his savior now has a new and complete life (John 11: 25-26).
Nobody goes to the Father but for me
Jesus is the only way for God. There is no other way to approach God. Only Jesus can take away our sins, allowing us to reach God. Only Jesus can give us salvation (Acts of the Apostles 4: 11-12).
