MENTORSHIP

Exodus 18:17-24
KJV:And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.
Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.
Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:
And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee
.

Who Is A Mentor?

A mentor is someone that knows more than you do and could help to guide you along life's path. You need to learn and grow from a trusted advisor. You need to get more than education; you need to get a life, because of this, you need more than a class, more than a book. You need a Mentor

A mentor helps bring out the best in you, pushes you to go extra mile.
A good example of biblical mentoring relationship is that of Moses and Jethro.
We could also see that in the life of Paul through the letters he wrote to the people of Corinth.

Mentoring can only work if you are willing to be taught. One needs to be humble and meek
Moses was known for humility and meekness (Numbers 2:3)
The disciples of Jesus Christ were willing to learn from Christ same as Timothy from Paul.
A mentor needs to see that burning desire and urge for Christ in you.
Study the word more often(2Timothy 2:15) and ask questions where you don't understand. Be inquisitive for your mentor to be motivated.

Role Of A Mentor

Exodus 18:9-18
KJV:And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the Lord had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.
And Jethro said, Blessed be the Lord, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.
And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.
And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?
And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:
When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.
And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.
Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone
.

Every Christians needs a mentor and even as we seek to find a mentor, it's also necessary to understand the role of a mentor in our lives.
A mentor affirms the work of God in your life and praises God for all he has done in and through you.
Jethro was delighted to hear all the good things the Lord had done for and through Moses. Jethro helped Moses to build a new system of leadership for the Israelites.

Mentorship is good, it is of a great benefit between the mentor and the mentee. No matter how vast what you know is, someone knows better.
So in this case you need a superior personnel over your life.

Why Do I Need A Mentor?

Proverbs 13:20-25

KJV:He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
he righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want
.

The reason why you need a mentor is not farfetched. We all need spiritual covering over our lives. Even as God watches over his people, a mentor also remembers his ward in prayers.
You someone to checkmate you, where you need to improve on.
You need a spiritual backbone and motivator that keeps encouraging you to press forward like Paul.

Discipline is very paramount in our lives as Christians in the area of spiritual growth. There are some boundaries we ought to set for ourselves but we find it difficult, but a mentor does that for us. You have a privilege to learn from the mistakes of someone which may happen to be your mentor.

Not so you could make the same mistake but so you can avoid making the same mistake they made, they help oversee your life and direct you on the right path and step to be taken so as not to fall a victim.

Mentorship is Biblical!
