Steemhunter Assistive Technology Digest - October 10, 2018

in #steemhunt6 years ago (edited)

compiled by @holovision for @assistive.tech

Following are some recent items found by steemhunters that potentially deal with assistive technology devices or services. These are not endorsements. This is presented in this digest to show what is available and possible for people with disabilities. Also, by starting a regular digest it might hopefully encourage more steemhunters to keep the category of assistive technology devices and services in mind as they continue to hunt for more items in the future.

1. Facett: Modular hearing aids with magnetic modules

Steemhunter: @vengador

This is a rechargeable hearing aid. It has two basic parts: The "core" has the hearing aid settings and the "module" holds the rechargeable battery.

2. Project Circleg: low-cost prosthetic leg using recycled plastic waste

Steemhunter: @butty

Link: https://steemhunt.com/@butty/project-circleg-low-cost-prosthetic-leg-using-recycled-plastic-waste

This is a project dedicated to creating prosthetic legs that are well designed for comfort and made from recycled plastic materials. This helps to lower the cost of prosthetic legs for amputee patients.

3. WheelMate: To help People with Disability

Steemhunter: @upali

Link: https://steemhunt.com/@upali/wheelmate-to-help-people-with-disability

One would think that laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) would make all public areas accessible to the disabled. Unfortunately this is not the case. This smartphone app helps people with mobility disabilities find wheelchair-friendly parking areas and restrooms.

Honorable Mentions:

These might not fall under assistive technology devices or services directly but they are worth taking note of:

1. BIO-PROCESSOR S3FBP5A: Capable of monitoring multiple bio-signals simultaneously

Steemhunter: @carloamc

If a patient needs to often have an idea of where their vital signs are at this is probably a good app. It sort of reminds me of the fictional Star Trek Tricorder medical instrument.
