The consumption-of-insects market continues to grow. High volumes of insect-based food can be produced with a lower environmental impact than many other forms of protein--notably dairy, a wide-spread ingredient in protein powders, which is not only expensive environmentally speaking but also not easily digested by a large percentage of the world's population (lactose intolerance). A trend is developing to replace expensive, high-environmental-impact sources of food with insects.
