RE: Huawei mate X - The future is here, World slimmest foldable smartphone
Foldable Phones everywhere....euh...at least from the companies in Asia. Really cool to see this technology finally in the smartphone, a tehcnology that has been talked about for more then a decade, or even longer. With Samsung now also Huawei on the market. Wondering how mnay people will actually buy one with the pricepoint of more than 2k US$. Guess in Euro countries it'll be more than 2k Euro. Apple sees their number of unit sold with their latest flagship phone, decreasing, and the number of people renewing their phones with older models in their catalogue. In my country, the Netherlands, Apple users didn't had problems when Apple phones where still priced below the 1k Euro, but with the latest price points of more than 1k Euro, people ar enot buying anymore the latest models. Sure, foldability is something completely new, but even though I really like this, the ability to have a (much) larger screen and maybe get a tablet experience, I would not spend 2+k US$ that easy. Anyway, Great Technology enhancement, Product and therefore also Hunt!
Sure @edje it's expensive and the convenience in daily use is not yet confirmed. It will take a few more generations of these foldable smartphones to land at a perfect price point ,a much better usability through software optimization and more suitable hardware upgrades.

Yeah I suppose so indeed. Wondering when Apple enters the arena of foldable phones, if I were them, I would wait, but then again, they need to keep their revenues up and that is difficult with reduced number of new units sold and price drops in part of the world to stimulate their numbers to at least a halt to slow down.
Yes apple might wait as well, their customers know
them for their finished and refined products, experimenting with a foldable smartphone now would be such a bold move.
