What is Open Toonz?

Generally, it is an open source 2D animation tools. This was launch by Dwango in cooperation with Digital Video and Studio Ghibli. Hence it is an open source, users can freely access and use the software. In addition, its developer aims to provide a platform that would eventually connect academic research into animation production. (Read more on Open Toonz at its website)

Why use Open Toonz?

Open Toonz has a unique features that enables its users to fully experience a quality animation production that pars on commercially available software. Here are its unique features:

1. GTS

Open Toon has a GTS scanning tool which could be used for sequence scanning and compatible with TWAIN standard. By which, this tools can be used to have a efficient recording of in-between animation scene.

2. Digital Painting

Open Toonz has a functionality to be used for anti-liased lines, use of provisional colors, and smooth operation for HD images.

3. Filming

Open Toonz is equipped with the time sheet-type interface where effects are synthesize easily using the node tree. IN addition, due to this functionality, more effects are possible using new added plug-ins.

Why I recommend Open Toonz?

Open Toonz is free and easily available. This has on par functionalities with commercially used animation production software. It has been used by a major animation studio, Studio Ghibli.
