The 'saildrones' are autonomous and unmanned surface ships, capable of navigating thousands of kilometers using their own energy sources, powered by wind energy and powered by solar energy, these are equipped with solar panels that generate electricity to power electronic devices , for long-range oceanographic data collection missions, conducted remotely or with scheduled routes, begins to sail the oceans to collect vital data on these large aquatic areas, largely unknown and misunderstood.
These drones sail pushed by the wind through the study area at a speed of 3 to 5 knots, able to travel the world and operate in all types of oceanic conditions, and will allow obtaining high resolution data on key environmental variables, both atmospheric, as superficial and underwater, by means of advanced scientific sensors. These collected data are transmitted to the ground via satellite, and are delivered to users through a web portal, which can be accessed from any computer or smart phone

Awesome gadget to collect a ton of data exactly where you like to collect it. Up until now if a scientist need specific data he needs to travel their, which is expensive and not environmental friendly, or they try to work with marine currents and let a data collector float where they need it and later on collect it, which is again not very environmental friendly since it needs to be collected and currents do change and you can't be certain to float by the point you need.

Hello @elleok, it is so very good product, because it is not only to have collected data if not images in real time, well if one of these drones does not go towards the objective stipulated by some inconvenience these can always be displayed
This is a really cool idea and might help scientists in this field conduct a lot of research without putting human lives in danger. I really like the idea that they are self sufficient, the only thing I would worry about is what happens when one of them breaks done or gets stuck somewhere, would you need a manned mission to fix it? I think this technology has a lot of potential though, really cool hunt
Hello @Jasonshick, this model will help scientists gather the necessary information about the oceans, without losing a human life. Up to now, these drones have not needed human intervention.

Ooo, this my first time seeing a drone that Sails, most of the drones that is water-related has an orange color. Maybe because Blue has an opposing color of Orange, that makes the user easy to watch his/her own drone by the seas.

Saildrone will help us to get data for surface ocean. With solar panels will help generate for electricity to power up energy. Capable for navigating in thousands kilometres. No matter with oceanic condition. Still give report for oceanic data with high resolution and data will collected via satellite and delivered from web portal to our PC and smartphone.
