Polymer is an open-source javascript library which is built for building web applications by using Web Components. The library itself is being developed by contributors of GitHub as well as developers in Google.
It has a lightweight library that is built for web standards-based Web Components APs, this is to make easier for developers to create and build their own custom HTML elements.
Each of those elements are reusable in many custom elements and also you can use other elements that are already built by other people, this can really make building complex web applications into a much easier and more effect than usual creation of elements.
Elements that are built on Polymer focuses on Re-usable elements, Self-Contained, can be interoperable accross to frameworks and built from platform up.
Each of those elements are comprised with CSS style, element properties and Javascript methods which can really help developers due to its powerful and yet usable functions.
Currently release is now 3.0 where it is fully backward compatible with the older versions of Polymer.
Best things that Polymer can offer to developers :
- Ultra-light
- Simple but expressive API
- One-stop shop for building progressive Web Apps
- Work anywhere on the web
Polymer does now run on all browsers and fully supports JavaScript Modules: JSBin, CodePen.
It is written on JavaScript/HTML and licensed under 3-Clause BSD.
It has been used by many Google services such as YouTube, Google Earth, Google Sites and many others.
Some notable users are McDonalds, Netflix and IBM.
You can check more of their updates on their website : www.polymer-project.org
