DesignedBuilt by the best of the best.

Tested at Ford wind tunnel.

Flux, built by the MIT Solar Electric Vehicle Team, was recently unveiled at Johnson Rink in preparation for its participation in the American Solar Challenge. Flux represents several steps forward in solar vehicle technology.

Hunters Comment

This solar car developed by solar team of MIT engineers is an engineering marvel. It uses asymmetrical design to reduce the aerodynamicdrag to 2/3 as compared to other vehicles. Designed using Ansys to perform CFD calculations, vehicle is mostly hand built.

  • Top Speed = 70 mph (motor can go up to 90 mph)
  • Cruise speed: 60mph
  • Weight: 450 lbs (without driver)
  • Dimensions: 4.45 m x 1.72 m
  • Carbon fiber wheels

Flux is indeed a leap in building viable and economical solar cars.

Hey hunter, you have really dug and going a very nice and beautiful product. I am not interested in the fact that it is a solar car because I have seen many of them but this particular product my MIT (we all know they are really good) solves problems I mean it profound a solution like the aerodynamicdrag to 2/3... We don't see such anywhere

It's a cool product

When ever I see products like this, some part of is happy some part feels bad for countries whose major dependency is on crude oil. Well maybe with time they’ll adapt. This is truly a state of the art

It is natural to feel like that....But sooner or latter oil based economies will become obsolete and that is a fact!!!
So I suggest everyone start preparing for that!!!
Thanks for stopping by....my friend:)

I started investigating solar-powered cars before introducing products on this platform. Because the unbeatable energy sources both harm the environment and materially force us. The design of this vehicle is nice but I don't think it is very safe and robust in case of an accident. Not only is this vehicle special, but in general, there is a lack of robustness in solar cars. Therefore, I think that these vehicles can be further developed and the interior design can be seen on the roads after the expansion. Still a QUALITY HUNT !

I agree that such designs could be vulnerable in case of an accident. But I guess, with the advent of driver-less AI cars and other technological improvements, road accidents will be a thing of the past. I believe solar technology can be integrated in designing of such cars.

Humanity needs to put an end to all road accidents in any case. So imo, this could be a good prototype that can inspire some tech for future cars. We evolve technologically one step at a time.

You may be right... the solar car tech is still very young and a lot of Rnd is still needed.

Always happy to see something from MIT engineers. They really are responsible for a great deal of innovations. It's surprising er light car with a very decent speed. Great trick with asymmetrical design to make the car even more efficient.

Cons:

  • Not a good choice for those who live away from the equator.
  • The look itself is terrible.
  • Not a good pick for a family.

Thanks for sharing the Hunt ☺

i look at this as proof of concept. Great job on the aerodynamic and the performance.
Hope that it will do well and find use for the commercial cars.

This is the result of the hard work of long days and night that such kind of technological product came out for use and making the lives of mankind easy and easy day by day.

FLUX is a really an amazing solar car that is eco-friendly, aerodynamics is keenly observed during the building of this car that make it able to go as fast as 70mph.

Thank you for sharing this amazing hunt @xabi

I really hope solar cars can gradually replace fossil fuel cars and electric cars. This would benefit our environment more and as such, benefit humanity. This is a awesome tech product

Solar car that looks pretty great, has quite a big speed and it might be a viable solution in the near future.

This is sleek. Look like a F1 race vehicle that is self powered. With more speed, this can be the future F1 sport vehicle. Cool hunt
