RE: Bid Bots: can Steemians make money with them?

in #steemit5 years ago

Dear @shortsegments first of all Thanks a ton to you for such an amazing work by writing this quite derailed post. I had few questions about bot voting and was looking for any post about or any one who can help to answer my queries but finally this post of yours cleared all my doubts. I have gone through this complete post and understood example as well. I have seen many people over here who use bots in each and every post of theirs. I still have one question which I want to ask you... Is this bot voting allowed by steemit? If yes then doesn't it affect real user as many people wouldn't expect audience to go thru their post rather they can earn by bot voting. You are right that ROI is not guaranteed and it can give loss as well depending upon the number of bids on particular voting cycle

Looking forward to another part of this post as you mentioned you will post soon. Resteemed.

Hi
Yes the use of Bid Bots is allowed on Steemit. It is an organized activity, which Steemit witnesses participate in by owning Bots. It is controversial and one reason it is discouraged is that some Steemians feel you should get all your rewards from the upvotes of your followers. I am sure there are other reasons such as the risk of losing money and giving money to Steemians who create Bots but not content. There are other issues with posts which are considered low quality making it to the top of the trending page not based on the post’s merits, but on the amount of Bid Bots used. There are other perceived negatives also. This is the blockchain so there are very few rules, but many opinions.
