Today one year ago exactly, my Steemit account was approved

After only a few days waiting (that actually felt like a week lol) I got the email that my account was now approved. Yay, finally I could start to discover this whole new world of being a Steemian. Little did I know, that this world was a bit (understatement of the year lol) more complicated than I'd thought. By the time I joined Steemit I had been blogging for a few months (before that time I'd never written a single blog) and I started to like it. My boyfriend was convinced though, that Steemit should be the platform that I invested all that time in. He saw me writing lots of posts and put a lot of time and effort in it on a Dutch platform, with only earning penny's. I was actually pretty pleased with the earnings though, but my boyfriend kept telling me to focus on Steemit. Because he really saw great potential for me here.

I started posting a few of my drawings that I'd recently made

And they received some votes, little did I know at that moment that the art section was a tough one to be found at. So many great artists are presenting their jewels on Steemit, I am actually quite surprised I managed to earn a bit from those at the time I just arrived here. Without any really interaction before starting to present my posts. I was so stupid to be happy with all the "great work my friend, I upvoted and followed you, please follow me back" messages instead of seeing through them lol. I had a lot to learn here... But that didn't matter, the best way is to mess things up, and then learn from them.. that way I will remember those mistakes for sure in the future ...

My learning curve

I have learned a lot since I became an active Steemit member around December 2017/ January 2018.. I have not only learned how to make a post and the use of tags, I also learned that my way of citing images was not the good lol, so I improved. As long as I am taking most of the pictures from Pixabay, I am now even mentioning the photographer to give him/her some credits that are well-deserved. Before I did not really think about those things a lot, and I am happy that during my last months I have learned to do these things as much as I can. Thanks to @qurator and @daan I've improved in citing my images. Many people are here to help others, and that's one of the things that I love a lot. The heartwarming communities, the people reaching out in the most unexpected ways. But of course this is not all that I've learned, I think I also made a personal growth since I became an active member here. I think it's fair to say that 2018 has started really good for me, and I can see myself on Steemit for many years to come!

Writing crying my eyes out and almost peeing myself from laughing

You'll find all sorts of posts looking in my profile. My real adventure actually began when @karinxxl pointed out the @familyprotection community because she knew a bit of my story, and thought that would be the place to vent for me. And so I did, @canadian-coconut has been supportive from my very first post there, and her and the support of @markwhittam and every member (you all know if I am talking about you, don't want to tag 50 people lol) that writes/comments/support there has been valuable to me. For my writing skills, because I think they've improved a lot. I used to write with tears rolling down my cheek, now I can (not always though) mostly write without anger. The familyprotection community gave me a voice, to tell my story, and I have already shared many parts, but unfortunately there's still a lot to tell. But to not drown in tears, I have now found a more balanced way to spend my time on Steemit, so I'm not only writing down the painful things anymore. A healthy balance is good for myself, and I think for my readers too.

Nowadays I consider Steemit my job

I understand that many can't imagine to call that a job, making money with writing, curating and interacting. But let me tell you, if it hadn't been for Steemit (and of course the supportive people that upvote me) we would have had a serious problem for the rest of this year. Because of the time and effort I've put in Steemit, I can actually say that this fills up our financial gap while paying back a loan for our apartment. Where I had lots of stress about money a few years ago, I now feel confident that I do have the power to work even harder to solve those problems. Because don't misunderstand me, I do have a full time job to make this happen, if you want to achieve something on Steemit, you got to work hard for it. But I am so grateful that I do have this option, and that I took it with both hands. I am not going anywhere...

Anouk Nox after one year on Steemit

Of course I started like everyone else with a reputation of 25, if you go to the mysteemitfriends website and then type your name there, you can look up all kinds of nice things to know. Funny facts about your Steemit career actually. You can see who supported you the most, but also your reputation ranking on the Steemit platform. Here's mine after a year:

anouk.nox has a reputation of 61.31 and is ranked at 3257

I remember I was ecstatic reaching the magic number 60 reputation, and look at it now, already on my way to 62. What else is there to tell about me on Steemit?

You will find me very active in these discord servers where I also spend a lot of time curating posts, trying to get more attention to undervalued posts.

As you can see, I am busy, really busy.. But I must say I love every single part of it! Next to the variety of all these tasks above, you will see even more of AnoukNox here, trust me.. I recently started to share my artworks after a bit of a break on drawing and painting.. but now I found me passion back.. and there is really more where that came from..

So I want to make a toast to my first year on Steemit, and let's make the next year even better! Cheers!!!
