RE: A couple of ideas for improving steemit

in #steemit5 years ago

The problem is partially though that Steemit is not improving much. They're making very small changes over a longer period of time - like changing "Flag" to "Downvote". They're not tackling most of the issues at hand.

This is why people are using alternatives for browsing Steem blockchain, like Busy.org, Partiko-app or Steempeak. They have some of the features people have been requesting, but not those which you were looking after.

I could imagine a private chat could be handled with memo keys through the blockchain OR by keeping the messages off the blockchain, which would be simpler and wouldn't require sending 0,001 transactions per every message.

We've actually begun making a lot more changes, with a lot more frequency, especially with respect to Community PRs. I think many of these changes would be implemented in Hivemind, and if we got PRs for them, @roadscape will definitely take a look at them and leave feedback. I like a lot of these ideas personally!

That's really nice to hear, even though I'm always a bit pessimistic about everything.

But I'm still glad with anything. Hope people can appreciate the changes which will be implemented :)

We had private messages on-chain with SteemPower.org that worked with custom JSON operations, but it didn't take off and it also required we hold a database on our own server that indexed all the messages and enabled notifications of new messages.

As I discussed in the post, on-chain isn't really suitable because of both bandwidth usage and privacy.
