May 17th 1954: A day for racial equality.

in #steemit6 years ago

In May 17, 2018, in a major civil rights victory, the U.S. Supreme Court hands down a unanimous decision in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. It ruled that racial segregation in public educational facilities was unconstitutional. This decision brought about an end to federal tolerance of racial segregation. It specifically dealt with Linda Brown, a young African American girl who had been deprived of admission to her local elementary school in Topeka, Kansas, because of the color of her skin.
