Thought of the day — Hobby Collections

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Good Morning fellow Steemians! Today’s thought is about hobby collections. Let me begin by saying I’ve always been a collector, but the things I collect I’m usually drawn to because they are also a store of value. Some things I collect to sell, knowing I’ll profit or at least break even. Others I collect because I believe it will have more value in the future, and still others because it’s odd, or limited. (Odd or limited usually means value as well, but not always) Here are a VERY few pictures of some things I collect:11903714-FBC7-4A24-810D-C2DA24AECBA2.jpeg
$2 bills (USD) have always been a weak spot for me. Not a value hold, just oddly obsessed.

This is one of my favorites, and the jewel of my silver collection. Limited to 1000, this will be a reminder of cannabis prohibition for years to come.

Some more of my silver collection, the top is an Apmex branded 1oz bar. Middle row from the left, year of the monkey, year of the dragon, and the oath of love inscribed bars (10 grams ea.) Bottom row, two one gram bars (I collect these to give away to people as unique gifts)

I also collect Amiibo, both boxed (above) and unboxed (below) these I only collect from my favorite games (unboxed) and as a value store (boxed). C34274C4-6D69-4BD2-8447-48F50C331BA9.jpeg

So what are some things that you collect? Do you consider it strictly hobby or an investment? I consider mine both, as one of my hobbies is investing. Please leave a photo of your favorite collection, or just engage the conversation by telling me what you like to collect.

@coldlogic This a pretty cool collection of items, I used to have a some apmex coins (1g Gold, and various Silver Pieces) however I missplaced them somewhere. After seeing your collection it inspired me to order some more and treat them more like treasure instead of plastic this time around.

I also found a website where I won some rare coins during an auction. Here's a $500 copper coin I won. 50000-note-currency-tribute-series-1-oz-999-fine-copper-round-888888946_2612018171776421050.JPG50000-note-currency-tribute-series-1-oz-999-fine-copper-round-888888946_2612018171774080050.JPG

Nice coin! How big is it relative to a 50 cent piece? I’d like to add some gold to my collection, but every time I get the money set aside for it I end up buying silver, crypto, or invest in the stock market instead. One day I’ll get some. Speaking of treating it like treasure, I keep my 1 gram silver in a little box so I feel like a pirate when I open it ;). image.jpg
