Weekly Review - Vivo Indian Premier League Twenty20 Cricket - Week 6

We have moved to that time of IPL season where the qualifiers are being identified to play the play-offs and we are also into that time where the bottom 4 are making all the efforts to push for a place in play-offs.
As I write this, 2 teams SRH and CSK have officially been qualified for the play-offs and 5 of the remaining 6 teams(except DD) are still in with a chance to qualify for the remaining 2 places into the play-offs.
All the bottom 4 teams MI, RR, RCB and DD have played well in week 6 and are trying to push as much as possible.

Here is a weekly review of week 6 of IPL.
1. Chennai Super Kings:
CSK have qualified for the play-offs with 8 wins from 12 matches they played.
They had 2 matches in week 6 one each against Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. They won the match against SRH but lost the one against RR.
Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have played exceptionally well with occasional good performance from Suresh Raina and their bowling is also getting improved with each match.
CSK continues to be in top 2 with 8 wins from 12 matches and is second in the points table.
2. Delhi Daredevils:
Delhi Daredevils campaign in this IPL has come to an end with 2 losses in week 6 although they had scored 180+ against SRH and RCB, but failed to defend the scores on both the occasions.
Rishabh Pant is in the form of his life as he got his first century in IPL playing in their first match of the week against SRH and the century although was in a losing cause, it is special one considering the strong bowling of SRH.
Their overseas players contribution is below par compared to the Indian players and that is what let them down.
DD has 6 pints from 12 matches with 3 wins and already out of the competition but they can play freely in their remaining 2 matches against CSK and MI and they will surely try to disturb the party to have some consolation wins.
3. Kings XI Punjab
Kings XI Punjab would like to forget their week 6 in this IPL as they lost both the matches they played against RR and KKR although their opener KL Rahul is scoring consistently, the contributions from other batsmen is not consistent and effective barring couple of brilliant knocks from Chris Gayle. They will ruing their missed chances to win in some of the earlier games if they fail to make the play-offs.
KXIP continued at third position in points table with 6 wins from 11 games but they need to up their game in the remaining matches to reach the play-offs.
4. Kolkata Knight Riders
Week 6 for KKR was a of mixed results yet another time as they were bowled out for 108 chasing a target of 210 against Mumbai Indians, but came back strongly in their next game against KXIP by setting a target of 245, the highest score of this season and KXIP could score 214 in response.
Good thing for KKR is the consistent good starts from Sunil Narine and good finishes by their captain Dinesh Karthik. Having said that, KKR off late hasn't been consistent and need to ensure they win atleast one of the remaining 2 matches against RR and SRH.
KKR still in the top 4 and have 6 wins from 12 games. They need to be vary of the late surge from MI and RR as they are on the negative side of net run rate and MI having a positive NRR.
5. Mumbai Indians:
Mumbai Indians started week 6 with a convincing win against KKR as they beat them by a huge margin of 102 runs but weren't good enough in the second match against RR as their target of 169 for a win was easily overpowered thanks to some brilliance performances in last few matches including that one from Jos Buttler.
Mumbai Indians have better chance of making the play-offs because of their positive net run rate among the 6 teams barring SRH and CSK but they need to ensure they win both their remaining matches against KXIP and DD.
Mumbai Indians are at sixth position with 10 points from 12 matches, but their NRR is positive which is a plus point for them.
6. Rajasthan Royals:
Rajasthan Royals made a strong comeback in week 6 with 3 awesome wins against KXIP, CSK and MI, thanks to their opener Jos Buttler and other batsmen. Especially Jos Butler is in good form scoring two 90+ scores and an 80+ score in those 3 matches which ensured RR cross the winning line.
One win from their remaining 2 matches against KKR and RCB will do but they need to win both the matches 2 ensure they reach playoffs without depending on other results as they have one of the worst net run rates among 6 teams barring DD.
Rajasthan Royals are in fifth position right now with 6 wins from 12 games and will have to face KKR and RCB in their remaining 2 matches with atleast one win to have a chance of staying in hunt for the play-off's.
7. Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Royal Challengers Bangalore starte week 6 against SRH and restricted them to 146, but couldn't overhaul that as they fell short by 5 runs at SRH's home ground where SRH has defended the scores of 118 and 130+.
RCB though came back strongly against DD at Delhi by scoring the stipulated target score of 182 inside 19 overs thanks to Virat Kohli and AB DeVilliers.
RCB stay at seventh place with that win against DD and have 4 wins from 11 games and need to win all their remaining matches to stay in contention for a place in playoff. As I write this, RCB have actually won their match against KXIP rather convincingly by bowling out KXIP for a paltry 88 and reaching the target in just 8.1 overs and have also upped their NRR from -0.29 to +0.20
Sunrisers Hyderabad:
Sunrisers Hyderabad continued their good show with wins against RCB and DD but faltered against CSK.
Shikhar Dhawan is slowly getting into some form, but it's their captain Kane Williamson's consistent scores which are crucial for SRH in their wins. Their bowling unit continues to be the best of all.
SRH to be at the top with 9 wins from 12 games and have already qualified for the playoffs and they will be among top 2 teams even if they lose their remaining 2 matches but that is unlikely.
Week 7 will be more interesting as 5 teams are fighting for 2 remaining places for the playoffs and each match will be important as for as each of those 5 teams are concerned.
