THE IMPORTANCE OF CORRECT TAGGING

in #steemit6 years ago

I was chatting yesterday with @buckaroo and was worried her post was going to slip through the cracks and not be seen. Her post was very important and the more people that read it the better. There is nothing worse than spending hours on a post and then using tags that you think fit it and are a little unsure.

I am a culprit of this as well and should spend more time getting the correct tags. It's a bit like going to the super market and mixing the food categories up so no one can find them. If someone is interested in sport you are not going to tag it as something else. I have done a little homework over the course of the evening and learnt a little which I will share with you. This is all about exposure and getting as many eyes on your post as possible so target the audience your post is suited to.

A post is allowed 5 tags. The very first tag is the main category so if you are doing a political post then your first tag will be politics. The next 4 tags are to attract the various readers from different groups. This you will have to do your own research but shouldn't take you too long. If you are going to spend a couple of hours on a post at least spend a good 30 minutes finding the right tags to give your post the best chance of being seen.

I believe that is most likely the highest reason a lot of posts aren't read and just disappear to be stored on the block chain. Don't try and get clever by adding trending as a tag hoping it pops into trending as that would be spamming and has the chance of being flagged.

The clever and more established users will know the tags and what is hot or not and will target their posts to that audience. Unfortunately not all of us are that smart yet and will take some time to find where the best place for a post is. I am learning and to be honest this is the first time Ii am putting any thought into tagging and all it really means is that you are most likely thinking a little more.

I will see what difference it makes and I am keen to see if it changes the rewards and visitors on @buckaroo future posts.

howdy sir @cryptoandcoffee! I know it's very important but I haven't seen much teaching on how to do it in a way that maximizes exposure, perhaps a more experienced steemian will share some tips on this post, great subject though!

Yes tag's are very important but a warning to new people is make sure your content belongs in that tag! Some people will flag a user for the wrong tag, it happend to me a long time ago.😖

Yes I am still getting used to the tags myself. Its a bit like google SEO. Think I def could do better

Thank you @cryptoandcoffee! Helpful post and thanks for your compassion and assistance. Tagging is definitely an area that I need to work on
