Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio (Los Angeles, November 11, 1974) is an American actor and film producer. He has received numerous awards for his performance, including an Oscar for best actor and a BAFTA Award for Best Actor for his performance in The reborn in 2016, two Golden Globes for best actor in drama for his performance in The Aviator in the 2005, in The reborn (2016) and a Golden Globe for best actor in comedy or musical for The Wolf of Wall Street, in 2014. Additionally, he has won the Silver Bear Prize and a Chlotrudis.

He began his career appearing in television commercials before acting in recurring roles of television series such as Santa Barbara and Los Problemas Crecen in the early 1990s. He made his film debut in the sci-fi and horror comedy Critters in 1991 and received praise of the critic for his performance in This Boy's Life, in 1993. He received recognition for his later work in roles such as "Who does Gilbert Grape love? (1993) 3 and Marvin's Room (1996), as well as in leading roles in The Basketball Diaries (1995) and Romeo + Julieta (1996), before reaching world fame for the James Cameron movie of 1997, Titanic.

Career

DiCaprio's career began with his appearance in several advertisements and educational films. After casting the cast of the Romper Room children's television series for being disruptive to him, at the age of five, DiCaprio followed his older half-brother Adam Farrar into television commercials, until he starred in an ad for the brand of Matchbox cars at age fourteen. In 1990, he made his television debut when he was cast in the cast of Parenthood, a series based on the movie of the same name. After this, DiCaprio obtained small roles in several series, including The New Lassie and Roseanne, as well as a brief role in Santa Barbara, playing the young Mason Capwell. His participation in Parenthood and Santa Barbara earned him a nomination for the Young Artist Award for Best Young Actor.

His film debut was in the science fiction and horror film Critters 3, in which he played the stepson of an evil owner. Launched in 1991, it became a regular member of the cast of the ABC sitcom Growing Pains, playing Luke Brower, a sick and homeless child who is welcomed by the Seaver family. DiCaprio achieved success on the big screen in 1992, when he was selected by Robert De Niro among 400 young actors to play the lead role in This Boy's Life, co-starring Ellen Barkin and De Niro himself.
