Facebook Relaxes Blockchain Ads Policy - But Keeps A Tight Position Towards Specific Cryptocurrencies And ICOs

in #steemit5 years ago

In a press release published a few hours ago, Facebook announced a relaxation of their "crypto-ads blockade". Last year, amidst increased concerns towards misleading crypto ads and shady ICOs, Facebook banned completely all blockchain related ads.

In this new announcement, the social media giant specifies:

"[...] starting today, we will narrow this policy to no longer require pre-approval for ads related to blockchain technology, industry news, education or events related to cryptocurrency."

That means that ads that promote a specific cryptocurrency or ICO will still require pre-approval (which, as you may imagine, has little to no chances to go well).

This correlates with other specific moves Facebook made lately, all leading towards a massive implication of the social media behemoth in the crypto phenomenon. It's no secret that they're preparing a US dollar-pegged crypto for making payments within Instagram, Whatsapp and - probably - Facebook Messenger. By relaxing ads related to blockchain, events, industry news and other events, it hopes to make the move more palatable and less intrusive.

My stance towards this development remains unchanged: while this is not really a crypto-currency, the fact that Facebook seems to be friendly with the entire area will support adoption of the crypto phenomenon in general.

@dragosroua,
If the remove the ban, I think it's a good time to promote STEEM there too!

Cheers~

The "ban" - or requiring a pre-approval - is still maintained for ads promoting a specific cryptocurrency, so this won't work.

Good development for social media advertisers, but isn't it too late for Facebook to make significant mark in blockchain ecosystem?

Facebook and always their problem

The success of digital currencies will force Facebook to recognize them
