Materialism has its boundaries and tends to make people short sighted, and the main problems in the world are caused by the latter. As technology advances "security" becomes more and more elusive... quantum computers, which only are a couple of years or so ahead will bring an abrupt end to any form of speculation and sense of privacy.

yes i know that quantum computing will end the era of encryption.. but new ways are also being developed that can be used to secure internet connections.. ill have a read of your blog too as that sounds interesting!
