The steem blockchain is the answer to censorship, but SteemIt can be censored and will be if it gains like every other platform on the internet.
How would steemit get censored?
SteemIt is a website like any other with a domain registered at ICANN. So if it does not censor whatever governments or right holder requests it could be shutdown. SteemIt is not the pure blockchain of steem, it's a layer which can filter what get's displayed.
I think the best use-case for STEEMIT is investigative journalism! No one can control what they report on! Bright future indeed!

Steemit is the way of the future. I was recently looking at the number of daily active users and I think we are about to reach a tipping point where the platform explodes with new growth and the Steem token joins the top ranks in crypto currency

Yeah, its impossible to censor anything. That includes illegal content of the sort most people would agree should be illegal - it would require all nodes of the network to delete a file at the same time as such would require it not only to be illegal all around the globe (or everyone who maintains a node to agree) but also to be deleted at the same time from all nodes. And of course, all data that is part of the blockchain itself cant ever be removed even in such a case.
Good point but it is still of immense value to independent media.
Not saying its not. It will be interesting to see how this develops. I know we cant keep any information illegal forever - if an AI ever sees anything which is illegal to portrait, the memory itself would be illegal. Heck, if i transfered my mind to a machine the memories of my teens would be illegal as i didnt just start having sex at the age of 18. I understand why some data might be illegal, but in the end its not the data that is the problem, if anything its the fact that it occoured in the first place to have data about it.
