Steemit Beginner Guide - DO and DONT protips to quickly earn Steem Power!steemCreated with Sketch.

in #steemit6 years ago

Every day, Steemit is increasing in popularity.
Some say that Steem will reach USD100 this year, and everybody wants a part of this (gigantic) pie. So what are the bests practices to get noticed on this excellent platform when you are a beginner?
Here is a DO / DON'T list for you. Begin the right way.

DO

1. ADSactly

You can see @adsactly as an open-source community, but it is more than just that. ADSactly is probably the first step if you want to engage Steemians with your content. They have a Discord where you can chat, exchange, introduce yourself, get advice, etc ...

2. Utopian.io

@utopian-io is a company that reward works on Open-source projects. It is the fastest way to earn some SBD / Steem to quickly power-up your Steemit account. If you are an artist, if you are fluent in another language, if you are a developer, or if you have some excellent ideas, Utopian.io is for you!

3. Dtube

If you are a Vlogger, a video maker, @dtube is THE platform to share your original content with the community.

4. Dsound

A SoundCloud alike, if you are a music maker, a podcaster, you can get rewarded with your work via @dsound .

5. Take time to comment and resteem

If the content is the King, engagement is the Queen.
When someone takes time to write a useful post, it's always a pleasure to see that someone took time to answer your post with an excellent analysis of the actual content of the post.
Doing that will positively engage the author and the curator, even if the author is a Whale!

6. Use @proba1 smart vote system

@proba1 created a website where you can find the best posts to upvote if you focus on curation rewards. If you are new and don't know where to start to comment/upvote content, this is a good start.

7. Participate in contests

Steemit holds a lot of them and every day they are dozens of new ones created. It's always a win/win situation: you can get a reward if you win the contest, and you can also gain in popularity if your contribution gets remarked!

8. Find category that you LOVE

Finding the right group is very important. You can check for a category where you are an expert at or a language category if you are not fluent in English. Writing and commenting on groups you are comfortable with will be easier for you and will keep up your motivation.

9. Between 300 and 1000 words

When you create a post, try to write at least 300 words. 500 words are perfect for me. Not too long, not too short! Perfect to read in less than 2 minutes and get the message.

10. Create nice Thumbnails

Thumbnails are very important. Users usually see them BEFORE the title. Making an eye-catching image that resumes your post is very important. You can create yours using Canva.com, a free and user-friendly website.

11. Focus on Steem Power (SP)!

Last one, but probably the more critical factor. Focus on SP more than STEEM and SBD! Your Steem Power is a long-term investment in Steemit. The future influencers are the users with a lot of SP!

Do NOT:

  • Post plagiarism (copypasta).
  • Post content that is not yours on Dtube. Same as plagiarism. Steemians HATE plagiarism. Take it seriously.
  • Beg for followers/comments. It's annoying, and nobody want to follow someone that has nothing else to say but "PLEASE FOLLOW ME. I NEED STEEM. PLZ"
  • Try to avoid teenager language. We are not all English native speakers, but please, avoid this kind of language: "PLZ - THX - NP - 4YOU - [...]" No one will take you seriously.
  • Post affiliate links. Well, you CAN post affiliate link with popular services such as Robinhood, Coinbase, etc... AVOID posting affiliate links from shady websites (gambling, MLM, Illegal activities, etc...)
  • Spam the comment section with the same comment. The only thing you will get is a Flag. Examples: "Nice post!", "Excellent post!". Don't. Just ... don't.
  • Upvote everything you see. Only use your Upvote 10 times a day. MAX! After that, your vote is worth nothing, and your vote power will take weeks to recharge.
  • Follow hundreds of people. It's very similar to Spamming. You follow people just for a follow-back, do not except anything else. Remember, quality over quantity.

Its amazing information for beginners of steemit. Thanks for this Information.....

Thanks for illuminating.... I think you have really done well by posting this it's really helpful.

I always take time to comment on everyone that I follow. If I don't, why do I follow them. So I'm keeping that number as low as I can so handle my feed.

You should be more carefull about your Voting Power.
As I said, only upvote 10 times / 24hrs (Post OR comment)
If you don't follow this rule, you will quickly loss Bandwith!

Thank you for this. Of course as you can see I'm a noob and I will definitely pump the brakes a bit. Feel free to use my account as a case study if you would like. This is very fascinating stuff. Also, I see that my rep jumped very quickly in the little time I've been here. Is that a benefit of what I was doing, going crazy on voting and commenting? Also if you look at my https://steemd.com/@gabbyg86 you can see I was a victim on the trevon downvote blitz which brought my bandwidth to like -150% this morning and brought my rep down a little. Would love to see your thoughts on this.

Nice Post. Follow me. UUrrgghh. I've read that too many times already today. And it's early.

I haven't been here long enough to guarantee these points, but I certainly follow them and are making serious progress. I just finished a 3 day review of my followers, I took over 50 out. I want content producers and not much else.

Thanks for a spot on post that I can use.

Ahah I already follow you, you are not legit :p !

This is very beneficial. I and my friend learn fromthis post.

This is perfect! You should incorporate this during sign up process. I will be the first one to admit, I was completely lost at first. Actually, still figuring things out. So thank you so much for this, it definitely helped answer a lot of questions I had. Great job.

Yeah it took me a whole month to completely understanding the basics of Steemit!

This is very handy stuff. Actually to be followed.
